Good for you! What strength you have to fight this with the temptations so close to home.

Yes, of course quitting will help him. Just his being more aware of when and how much he smokes is great! The more he thinks about it the more likely he will be to re evaluate his choices.

Look at you, getting healthy and possibly influencing a loved ones health!  That deserves a reward! Give your hubby a big hug...unless he smells like smoke of course

Hi Ashley

I'm on day 11 of my quit and my husband has continued to smoke.  I find I didn't even have to get him to hide the cigarettes because when I smell the stale smoke on his clothes it makes me want to gag! lol  That alone is a reason for me to keep going, I never realized how bad I must have smelled to other people.

We never smoked in the house, so that makes it easier because he has to go outside, out of my sight.  If he smoked inside, I don't think I'd ever be able to quit.  I'm hoping that if I'm successful with this quit, it may make him want to quit as well.  I find that now he is embarassed when he has a smoke and has to come near me because he knows how much it bothers me.

Not sure if this helps, but this is my experience with it.

First off, your quit has to be your first priority. Lead by example.

Second, talk to him/her. Try to find some middle ground together that will keep your children from being exposed to the harmful effects of smoking and you from temptation.

Many members have dealt with this issue and have gone on to have successful quits. Some of them have had their husbands/wives hide their cigarettes from them and agreed that the smoker of the household should take it outside or limit it to one enclosed room in the house.

If any members here have quit alongside a smoking spouse, please share your tips & experiences!
