Great topic Samantha and one that is worthy of further investigation. By rewarding ourselves it gives us something concrete. When we spend our hard earned cash on our addictions there is nothing to show for it except pain and a lifetime of suffering whereas when we reward ourselves it can usually be something of more lasting and tangable value than the immediate. It makes forfeiting that pack of butts all the more easier not to buy when we have something better planned for ourselves. It makes the right choices easier when we know that in the future we're going to get something good for our trouble. We can take pride in winning the day. We're reinforcing our self-esteem in knowing that we're making better choices as sometimes we can have one or the other and not both. Simply put " buy yourself something nice , pamper yourselves " and " don't smoke". breather
