Your Perfect Quit Buddy

I have a different take on this one. I have intentionally hidden my quit from everyone except my hubby- would have kept him from him too, but that's like mission impossible since we live together and always smoked together :) I quit one time before and hated people asking me how my quit was going etc. I know they were being nice and caring but I didn't want to talk about it all the time bc it was already hard to stop obsessing over the thought of ciggies, let alone having people raise the topic all the time. So...this time it is my little secret and I'm doing so much better. Noone talks about it and I like it that way. If I need help or to chat I jump on SSC and get great advise from people who have real authority bc you've all been there done that. I don't need my loved ones to be proud of me for quiting. I'm doing this for ME and I'm proud of me. The best way they support me therefore is by not knowing about the quit and by just continuing life as it always has been...great family and friends just hanging around talking about random stuff;)

Hi Ashley...it is funny you should bring this up today. I was just telling my boss (who sooooo wants me to quit) who has never smoked before, that I needed her support in a nice way. I printed off the page with the "withdrawal symptons" on it and gave it to her to read. I told her if I happen to 'get out of hand' over the next few weeks...that she was not to get mad at me or yell at me...just either give me a 'time out' or send me home...she said she was going to bring in a mini trampoline and a jump rope to put in the break room and that is where she would send me for 'time out'. Now we were laughing a little about this, but also she knows how serious it will be. I do believe she will be a lot of help.

As far as my family member, the only one I have close, is my son, and he is quitting on Oct 1st also. So if we don't kill each other...lol...we will be there to give each other support.

Hi Members,

Quitting is hard but when you have the support of a good friend it can make a huge difference!  The support group certainly helps others stay quit but sometimes we need the support of family and loved ones.  However, if a a loved one has not quit smoking themselves it is hard for them to understand what you are going through and how they can support you.  How do you want loved ones to support you?  What advice would you give to a support person who has never smoked themselves?
