sarahc- hey there, this is my first time on this site but your posting interested me. about 2 years ago, i couldn't leave my apartment or even go in the hall to get my mail for about 6 months, but this book REALLY helped me, so maybe it will help you. Book: I can't find it right now, but I think this information is right. -Author: Bill O-Conon -Title: Do one thing differently Don't worry, I'm not much of a reader, but this book is short and easy to read. The whole idea of this book is that; everyday, you do one thing differently. For an example: everyday, leave the house and walk around the block....then, after a few days or so, walk two blocks....then so on. I know it sounds a little silly, but it really helps. or...if that's too much of a start, maybe.. leave the house and sit on the steps for 10 minutes everyday, then 15 minutes, then 20, then finally, walk a block.... or....sometimes I like to take my ipod with me so that I feel comfortable being outside, but this way, I can kindof block out the other stuff. These are some ideas that have helped me along the way...I hope that it will help you. kck

I need some advice. I've been "In recovery" from agoraphobia (after being totally housebound for 2 years) since Sept 2002. My problem is, is that i have come up against that brick wall that is stopping me from getting any further with my recovery. Let me explain, i can go out pretty much anywhere but only with my mother. I take my son and collect him from school everyday alone but to be honest it takes me about 10 minutes max there and back so no big deal there. Where i live there is a shop which i walk to occassionally to get my papers but that is all thats in walking distance, anything else requires a car, which i do not have. Without a car i am stuck and since i don't have the money to buy or run a car i have no idea how i am going to get any better than what i am. I've borrowed my mothers car a couple of times, but she really doesn't trust me with her "pride and joy"! I do still get panicky sometimes when i am out, but generally i can work through it, i am well aware of what the feelings are so i know theres nothing *seriously* wrong with me. What is the next step!? Sarahc
