Hello!
I also am not aware of what support groups are available in your area - I live in the western states. But, I also have the same problems as you. Anxiety, panic, agoraphobia - so much fun! I force myself to go out and do things that I have to do like going to work, family functions, going to the store, things like that. And most of the time I am light headed and anxious the whole time I'm out doing these things. Things that aren't necessary, even things that I used to enjoy, take a lot of effort and sometimes I don't even bother doing. I took my boys to the movies a month or two ago and I was ok for the most part, but about half way through the movie, I started to panic really bad. I forced myself to stay for my boys sake but it was so hard! I totally understand what you mean about feeling like you are ruling over your familes social lives! Have you started the free 12 week program offered on this site? It teaches Cognitive Behavior Therapy, which is the most effective way of conquering this monster. I have done a lot of research about therapies for panic / anxiety because I am so tired of living like this and every thing I have read says that CBT is the most effective treatment. It is effective for panic, anxiety and agoraphobia. It takes a lot of effort and determination on your part but I promise if you work hard at it, it is so worth it! I am on week three and I have noticed a difference. For the first time in 12 years, I finally feel like there is hope! This is a learned behavior and it can most definitely be unlearned! Even though it may not feel like it, we all have it within ourselves to beat this - I promise!
If you can't find a support group where you live, please remember that the people on this support group all know exactly what you are going through every single day and we will always be here to help hold you up when you are feeling weak. We all have good days and we all have bad days. But, most importantly, we all understand completely and no one here will ever judge or criticize you for seeking help or just needing someone to talk to. We're all here for the same reasons. :)
