Hi, SS!!!  You are digging into the site and that is great.  You will find more feedback and insight that will help you. 
 
You hit it on the head in that we are taking this journey minute by minute, day by day.  As you travel along, it will become easier.  There will be times you forget that you ever smoked.  There will be other times that clearly remind you that you used to smoke.  Some will be due to urges.  Some will be to physical limitations.  Some will just be.
 
Roll with it. You are doing great!
 
The first month is filled with peaks and valleys.  Your brain and body are confused as you develop new habits.  My journey started smoothing out around 75 days. 
 
Keep digging into this site, drink tons of water, check out every now and again with a nap.   Be sure to reward yourself.  It can be so simple like a deep cleansing breath.  Hold it for 5 seconds.  It can be a solitary moment of looking out a window and reflecting on the beauty of the world.  A short walk around the block.  An OREO cookie. 
 
You are making a great change!!!! Keep the Quit,

SS, I have to agree with Jan's post!  When you are typing on this board, you aren't smoking!  As for the long timers, they are the ones that motivate us newbies. And yes, I still consider myself to be a newbie.  When will I no longer be a newbie?  It will probably be some Tuesday in the future!   I'll know when I get there! 
We don't have before and after pics like other websites, so its the stat meters of long time quitters that are the "show and tell".  I plan on being here for a long time.  I hope you will do the same!

I won't lie and say stopping smoking is a cakewalk.  But it is DOABLE, especially when taken in small steps.  One crave, one hour, one day at a time.  Especially in the beginning. 
Having a good array of coping tools at your disposal really helps.  Gum, lots of water, walking, stress ball, napping when possible, some good TV shows or movies...I swore by CSI, Law and Order, etc..., at the beginning of my quit.
I'll be smoke free 2 years this January and I can tell you I don't look at cigarettes with longing any more.  In fact, if anything, its the opposite.
I originally joined this site back in 2006, but it took me a few times before I finally got the hang of quitting.  I enjoy the people here at SSC, the support is wonderful and we have good times without cigarettes!
