To smoke? Well, if that's true, the only thing that makes sense there is that watching parents drunk influences children's vices. Since cigarettes and alcohol often go together, its possible that the children of drunks would take up smoking. However, I think "influence" works both ways. My family is loaded with alcoholics, but I never took up drinking, precisely because I saw the damage it does. I think the same could have happened with cigarettes, but I had other influences besides my parents. For instance, I grew up a ward of the state. We were allowed to smoke in group homes, even as young teenagers. I smoked because the other children around me did, and I think to also be close to my parents. (Also, I don't believe that smoking causes the most amount of damage in society. When most of the people in incests survivors' and overeaters' groups, along with those in Al-Anon, AA, NA, cemeteries and hospitals are counted (smoker's maybe), alcohol is under priced. Although I will admit that there is a safe level at which to drink, which is something that can't be said for smoking.
