But we honestly didn't know (at least I didn't) back in the 60s and 70s, when I started. By the time we heard about second-hand smoke, I am ashamed to admit, I thought they were all a bunch of melodramatic, alarmist whiners.
And then look at what happened to that wonderful wife of Christopher Reeve -- never smoked a day in her life, but died of lung cancer because she was once a cabaret singer in a smoky bar.
My state (Virginia) is finally getting serious about a public smoking ban, which I support 100%. I feel so horrible about the people who didn't smoke but worked in bars and restaurants I frequented because they allowed smoking. It's not like we have that many choices about where we can work any more! A job is a job! I really hope they make every public establishment smoke-free, and I will ride my representatives' rear ends until they do it.
