bgaineshunter,

Sorry to hear that today has been harder for you. By reminding yourself of the stress caused by smoking, it may be easier to fight the cravings!

Stay strong and continue to post to let us know how you are doing!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Nicodemon's been talking up a good one today. He tells me that I should just kick back and relax with a cigarette. But the way I remember things, smoking wasn't very relaxing for me. Frankly, smoking stresses me out. Cigarettes here are also ~$7.50 per pack. The price didn't have much to do with my quitting, but it has a lot to do with my staying stopped.

My Milage:

My Quit Date: 9/2/2008
Smoke-Free Days: 8
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 280

Thanks Bonnie for the great reminder.  All of us have to revisit why we came here and told ourselves and others that we do not want to smoke ever again.  We were suffering with an addiction that we really know in our hearts we don't want anymore. Therefore, we need to keep reminding ourselves what we have come to realize after so many years of smoking. I agree that the AC book explains the case very well, and that is why I and so many quitters have become big supporters of his ideas.  I know that I have become a much better person from quitting the addiction of cigarettes. Even with all the rough days like what TIC talks about, I can think of so many great positive experiences and things that have changed in my life for the better that only would have been possible by putting out that last cig.  It's one day at a time and every day we go forward in that process only reinforces the idea that our original thought of wanting to quit is correct.

Coming here , reading posting and making friends has kept me on my quit journey....   I also read

"Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit Smoking"  he was a smoker,   he made a lot of sense to me and something "clicked"

when we put nicotine in our bodies, our brains opened up nicotine receptors, and shut off our natural feel good receptors (dopamine)  it will take about 6 months for us to start making dopamne again,, and we will never get all the nicotine receptors turned off.

So in order to conqueor this.. we have to admit we ae addicted.. and teach ourselves   to ignore the craves... every time we say  NO,  in each situation, it gets easier..  but you have to get your mind around... N O P E   ( not one puff ever)  that Last cigarette... well it was Your LAST.

good luck .. hang in there

Bonnie

Today was a rough day for me too. I was so tempted to go buy a pack of smokes tonight. Then I reminded myself of what they will do to me. All the stuff that had been going on with my body while i smoked. Time to start posting here more I know that. I find straying to far from the "pack" ...pardon the pun...leads you back to your old way of thinking. So I am back. Now help me! hahahaha Everyone please hang in there. Some days are tough....but the good ones are great! :-)
