I made an apointment for Tuesday with the doctor.  It just seems to bad for just a quit smoking reaction.  Unless it is because I smoked for 35 years.  I don't know but it is getting too much to handle.  I need some help.

Beckylynn,

In addition to withdrawing to the toxic chemicals smoking introduced, there are also many changes going on in your body.

When you smoked, nicotine triggered the release of neurotransmitters in your brain. These neurotransmitters are responsible for good mood. When you quit, it isn't uncommon for your mood to take a nose dive.

This case of the blues is usually temporary and until it passes, there are a few things you can do:

* Exercise as it releases endorphins and these are also conducive to good mood.
* Rewarding yourself with something pleasurable. This triggers the same release of neurotransmitters we mentioned.
* Get outside and get adequate rest as these also affect your mood.

Members, please feel free to share your experiences and what worked for you.
Again, Beckylynn, I do suggest going to visit your family doctor if these feelings persist.

If smoking increases risk of depression then why after 50 days am I so depressed and have been for about 2 weeks now.  I can't shake it.  I am just not happy about anything anymore.  My husband thinks I hate him and I can't explain to him how I feel.  I just cry.

Cigarettes have many different kinds of chemicals that are of course bad for you and your body.  Everyone's reaction will be diffent and like yours unique.

Smoking also has a habit of maksing symptoms that become more prevalent once you quit.
