I have had night sweats for years. At first it was due to menopause. I am 56. Now, it is due to panic attacks. I would wake up and my gown would be saturated. I have been taking Black Cohash and it has helped. I also purchased a "chillo". I purchased it online. I think I have seen one at Walgreens since I purchased mine. You fill it up with water and put in in your pillow case on top of your pillow. It keeps your head cool. Also, for the past few nights, right before I go to bed, i have taken a very cold wash cloth and rubbed the base of my head with it and then I allow it to rest around my neck for awhile. I don't know if it is a fluke or not but so far so good. Hey, you get to the point you will try almost anything. I know you can relate. :)
Is anyone on any type of medication? I was taking Zoloft & I now take Paxil CR. I experience the night sweats as a side effect of the meds. It does go away though.. it is normal.
I started having panic attacks and quit smoking and having caffeine right around the same time... Talk about a shocked nervous system.
When I first started taking the meds I noticed that I would wake up and between my thighs/calfs would be sweaty, the first few times it happened I thought I had "Wet the bed". I don't think it lasted too long as I cannot remember the last time it happened.

Hey, just wanted to let you guys know, i went to the Dr. and he told me my night sweats were coming from anxiety/panic-LOL!! imagine that!!
Anyways, he told me it was nothing hormonal/peri-menopause because he said my menstrual cycle would be all out of whack! which it isn't- so i guess i have to believe him that it is the anxiety.
He put me on lexapro and klonopin to help me sleep- i'm scared to death to take these- i have never taken meds before- i keep thinking i can beat this on my own-
we'll see!!
Hi Jackie,
Yes i have those too, which is strange because I generally dont sweat alot. I am only 26 so i'm pretty sure its not peri-menapause, plus I am on the birth control pill. Are you on any anti-depressants, because I really started with them when I started taking meds, I would wake up just drenched in sweat especially on my chest...and really hot. It was like I was running a marathon in my sleep. This often happens to when I wake up in a panic attack. I know that paxil...the drug I am on does increase sweating and hot/cold flashes.
Nightsweats! Yes I had them for quite some time and I was in my mid 30's when they started (before the term perimenopause became popular) these also triggered some panic and anxiety at the same time.
I talked to my Doc about them and got this dear in the headlights look and he said it probably was nothing to worry about! Quack.
Anyway I did alot of research(my mother had already passed on several years before so I had no female relative to question about early menopause).
I found that yam cream(yes yams) applied to the soft tissue areas of my body, inside the upper arm, behind the knees, resolved the nightsweats and hot flashes that started soon after.
Check with your doctor.
I didnt want to go the HRT route so I went herbal and it worked.
Hi jackie,
Glad to hear that you are seeing your doctor about this. Our bodies go through some major changes when we quit smoking. In preparation for your visit, it might be helpful to bring a list of any other recent changes or stresses if applicable.

I have been having terrible night sweats for the past week1/2- I wake up about the same time every night with my chest just drenched- has anyone else ever had this because it is really freaking me out!!
I have done some research on the web and it all points to menopause- I'm 35 yrs old- i guess it's a possibility- the other thing is i quit smoking too- and it started right after that but why would that be making me sweat and especially every night!!
i have an app't with my Dr. next week- any suggestions would help!!
