does medicine work for anyone here?

Hey don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with taking meds, its just in my experience nothing like that is ever offered. I don't know where you are all from, but in England, myself, or anyone else I have come across with this problem have never been offerd anything other than Beta Blockers, which would just slow the heartbeat down when an attck occurred. I fully respect peoples decisions to use medication, its just from my point of view, because we don't seem to have that route here, and reading a lot of posts, it doesn't always seem to work. When I went to my Docter they sent me on an Anxiety Management course, where we discussed things like medication, and it was their view that this wasn't a route they encouraged people to go down. Afer the course I went back to the Docter to ask if there was anything else I could do because at that point the course hadn't really helped, she said there was nothing else she could offer and suggested I tried meditation tapes and books etc. I don't know if this is the case throughout the different NHS areas in England, But certainly in my area this is the case. I am sorry if anybody thought I was being unsupportive, I really wasn't.

I respect your decision slinky I had almost the same attitude but I just got to a hump that I couldn't get over, sure I might get over it months from now but if taking medication cut that time in half I would be saving myself and my family alot of grief and worry. I have already taken alot of steps to help myself and I am almost there but I am stuck, I changed my diet I eat way way healthier, I changed my lifestyle, way more exercise, relaxation, I am progressing through CBT. If you do some research you will find meds alone do not work that great, however there has been alot of success, very high success rates actually using a combination of techniques like CBT with meds. Some people do experience side effects but with any medication side effects can occur just look up tylenol and check the side effects for it. If you properly research medication yes they do list side effects but usually they list a percentage of people that get those side effects and some of those percentages are extremely low.

Slinky, It's difficult for us to judge another and their ways of dealing with Panic, Agoraphobia, depression etc. What is important here is that our members realize that there is a problem and are being pro-active and are seeking assistance, whether it be prescribed medications, herbal remedies, therapy and of course this site. We are all here to listen and support one another in a positive caring mannor. I hope you all have a wonderful day. Melanie _____________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

I can tell a huge change in me if I get off the lexapro. I am very freaky, afraid, sad and angry. The lexapro does not make me a zombie or anything like that. I work a professional job and take care of my family and I am a much better and happier person while I am on my meds.

Hi Outlaw, I've said this before on other posts, but in England they don't seem to offer any of this medication and to be honest I wouldn't take it even if it was offered! My belief is that medication doesn't really help, its just masking a problem, as much as I hate it, I would much rather face it and learn from the attacks. And quite rankly judging by most of the posts on heere, medication doesn't really appear to help anyway!!

I see people like me are eithier to scared to take medication here because the side effects make em feel worse..others think they dont need it,and try other options..ive been on xanax the whole time sure it helps, but its like this a very short time cure maybe it helps sometimes, other times im looking at the clock waiting for the next dose it sucks..i really dont see many people here getting any better, the ones that do,probally just dont post anymore eithier, once you got your life back would you come back here..i would once and ahwile to help others, but i would be l.i.v.i.n.g again and that would be great no fears,no boundries the old me i liked the old me thats one thing i learned through this disorder..anyone find zoloft,or paxil,or lexapro which is supposed to have pretty much no side effects to help???i need something to get me over the hump, get me feeling real again than there is no stopping outlaw lol..later people...
