Ok.. I didn't smoke yesterday and reviewed the whole program again... I am dealing with it almost like pretending that today is my quit date.. soooooo focus breathe in breathe out and it will pass! I think the stress of last week was really getting to me and yes I did forget why I was quitting and my coping skills were just forgotten or the idea pushed out of my head. hey Boots!!! I got off my chantix early in my quit and it was a bit of a struggle for a few days, but you just got to keep going back to your coping strategies!!! I still go through periods where I "think" I want a nasty butt, but I just tell myself NOT ONLY NO, BUT HELL NO!!! I am a non-smoker and I'm just going to have to get over it!! Ok then it's the deep breathing or the weed pulling and the walking up and down the stairs or the candy bar or the peanuts!!! You get my drift, anything but that last resort!!! You can do it and we're all here to tell you so!!!! It will pass!! Totally agree. Moss and I have been really dealing with this lately. Up down, back forth, craving but not caving. I went through the last month of crying all the time. I have to say only the last two days have been better. It has been quit a struggle, and mine hit later in the quit also, after quitting the chantix. Hang in there, I am seeing some light finally, I hope you do too. Boots, Yes it will pass... I also took Chantix, I stopped taking it 6 weeks into my quit. I do remember that after stopping the Chantix I had more craves. It didn't last to long though. Keep using your coping skills and before you know it you will feel much better. You are doing great!!! thanks everyone ..I think that the reason that I found it so easy the first couple of weeks is that you expect it to be tough .. I don't think after 3 months you totally expect it to continue to be tough and you realize just how much of an addiction you have. When I first took the test before I quit there was a test saying how addicted are you I scored very high saying I was very addicted to cigarettes .. but after I quit I found it so easy that I began to think man this isnt' hard at all and wondered if the test was true... I began to think that I'm done and I've kicked it .. wow .. and you begin to for lack of a better word be cocky in your attitude ..I've come a long way but only recently I have learned that I still have a long way to go.. Thanks for responding everyone .. I don't know what I would do with out the support this group gives .. but I probably would be smoking right now without you instead of crying .. Thanks ! Boots, you will go through a spell now and then but that's about it. I remember when I went off the Chantix things were a bit turbulent (to say the least). Sounds like you are having a more difficult time than Sue and I did. I strongly URGE YOU TO REVIEW YOUR REASONS of why you quit!! Re-write it if necessary. The reason you are having trouble is because you are either forgetting the reasons why you quit or you are reliving experiences of when you used to smoke. It will pass. Hey Boots! Well, first - congrats on nearly three months smoke free. Even if you don't feel it at the moment, you are accomplishing an amazing thing. Did you ever think you'd make it this far? It will pass. Moss is exactly right, you may be having growing pains as you move into a deeper level of your quit. Smoking affected so much of what we did and who we were that it takes a while to get over those things. The kicker is that no matter how much you "want" a smoke - it is the very thing that is causing you to feel so uncomfortable. The only way to get over them is to just not smoke that next cigarette and repeat. Even after 80+ days. You are doing great. I stand by my tag line that quitting isn't about feelings but commitment. Sometimes you just have to commit to 5 minutes at a time until things brighten up again. Boots I don't know if you have followed any of my threads recently but I was exactly where you are at. It is frustrating to have so many days under your belt and then to experience these thoughts. Yes, they do pass. I don't know how long they will last for you but just when I thought I couldn't take any more they began to lighten up. And I agree with you regarding the first couple weeks. It was a couple months in to my quit, after stopping chantix, when I really began to feel the emotional stuff hitting the fan. It is the deeper levels of cessation that really threw my brain in to a spin. so if it helps, you are not alone and what your feeling is something that others are going through as well. Hang in there Boots. And try not to compare yourself to others. I know that is hard but us humans all tick a little differently.
