I think my headache pain was just from the fluctuation of barometric pressure and temperature the past week. Morgan what you describe I have read on alot of sites as being TMJ , mine headache pain was a bit different though it was close to the top of my head.. I had tried advil regular and advil migraine liqui gels and niether made any difference really. Thanks for the responses and the massage tip I will try it to see if it helps the next time this headache thing starts up.

Hi Pete: Can you tell me exactly where your pain is? I think I have that too. My Dr. just told me I probably have TMJ, but it only affects me on the right side. It feels like it is between my temple, ear, jaw then down to my chin area. Is this the area? It seems to come for no reason (not eating or talking, etc) and it comes suddently and hurts like the worst pain I've had before. Does this sound like yours? I've tried ice, warm, Advil liquid gel caps for migraines and even amitrypiline, but they don't even make a dent in the pain. I'm starting to think it may be a neuralgia, but it lasts up to 40 mintues, goes away for a bit, then comes back again - about 3 x's a day. Neuralgia apparently only comes for 2 mintues at a time. Please let me know if you, or anyone else, has any ideas. Thanks.

TMJ stands for Temporo-mandibular joint. Try a physiotherapist if the massage thing does not work for you.

Yes I get this and my Mom had it too. She went to a Physiotherapist and he said, if it is the joint to open your mouth wide like a fish, if you feel right in front of your ear a small hole forms where the joint is - massage that area. Also use heat like a microwaved bean bag to relieve the pain. Hope this helps. Mine is very sore in the joint and sometimes my ear pops when I am massaging it - I sometimes wonder if my balance gets off because of this? My Mom was able to get rid of her pain in trying this so I hope it works.

When I first started having panic attacks I had what I would describe as a tension headache for about 2 months it felt, it eventually went away I had an mri and that cause I was worried it was a brain tumor or something and the mri came back fine. last week I started feeling alot better, mainly my balance which seems to have been thrown off by tension in my ears. But now I have this headache again, not sure if it is really tension, or maybe it is even the weather, I live in southern ontario and the weather has been up and down the past week. Anyways the headache seems to get worse after physcial activity. I was thinking it might be TMJ the pain I get is on the right side of my head above the ear close to the top of my head. Do any of you have headaches from anxiety or headaches from TMJ?
