rapid heart and lightheadedness

MY first panic attack that sent me to the hospital.. My heart rate was 120 and I felt like I was going to pass out, but I didn't because my blood pressure shot up too. In fact, I was real dizzy, too. When I have a panic attack, the first thing I notice is my heart rate and then it proceeds to the other symptoms. Sometimes I feel like I am going to pass out, but I never have. I think that is my biggest fear, but it has never happened.

Hi outlaw, I am sure other members will be responding to your post soon, but please make sure to ask this question of your doctor. He/she will be the one to interpret all of the results and know if further testing is appropriate and advise on what symptoms to watch for. `just thought i'd let you know something medical. during our panic attacks our hearts can race to 130bpm. the heart can sustain this rate for weeks without danger. if you are not sure that you don't have a heart problem than you should see a doctor. maybe they will give you a holter moniter for 24hrs and see if everything is ok. The dizziness, well some say is from hyperventilation. it goes away when you slow your breathing down. we are letting off to much CO from breathing to fast. Also tension in your jaw and inner ear can cause the dizzy feeling. it will go away when you relax. try to take slow breaths and exhale with pursed lips. the shortness of breath is from the tightness in your diaphragm. just breath slow and easy and it will go away.we all get panic attacks from to much adrenaline released in to our bodies. since the adrenaline is metabolized in less than 3 minutes our effect go away just as fast. we just don't realize this. to us it is a ;ife time. I'm sorry if i see like i have the answers but i am a doctor who suffers just like the rest of us. it iss easy to give advice but very hard to take it. but it does help some people i see. Christina

When I have panic attacks I feel very faint and I make it worse by obsessing over the fact I may pass out. My Cb therapist told me its impossible to pass out during a panic attack unless its something physically wrong with you because you blood pressue has increased and is flowing to the brain. When you pass out your blood presure drops and its more from shock. So they are completetly different. She can explain it much better but I feel safer and I have not been as anxious since she explained to me what is happening to my body while having a panic attack.

I do not think that is so uncommon. I know when you get heart palpations (and they are not always a clue that something is wrong) you can get light headed. The worst thing you can do is start obsessing about it and then throw yourself into panic.

I was just wondering if anyone has suffered from having such a fast heartbeat that they thought they might pass out? I have had this before but when it happened tonight it just freaked me out! I wasn't even worrying, I was at a friends house and was sat laughing and joking and then felt really lightheaded and felt if I stood up I would faint! I think it was where I was sat crunched up and through laughing hard didn't breath properly so I made myself lightheaded but I'm worried now in case I have a heart condition! Has anyone else felt like this??
