Alcohol and Anxiety ACK!!!!

I'm just going to ask this question all of you who have panic attacks during consummation of alcohol: - Were you drinking black vine? It's pretty funny because I drink one to two beers (little ones 0,33dcl) per day and never felt bad because of it but once when I had very good expansive red vine at home I said to myself : Why not? It's good for your arteries, heart and is full of antioxidants! Everybody's talking about how good it is! Let's try it! I drank one glass of red (tasty one too) vine and suddenly I felt odd! My ears became warm and my head was burning. I felt strange, didn't know what's happening to me! After that my heart started to beat very fast and I felt like it's going to break my chests and go out! I was confused! It wasn't a panic attack but it almost led me to one! Then I went to my fridge and took a beer and after I drank it everything was good. My ears were not red anymore (and before you could say I had two potatoes instead of ears) and I was feeling good. Next day I was out with my boyfriend (it was our 3 years anniversary) and we were drinking beer in a bar that was like our other home and the bartender there was our good friend. I was ashamed (at that time I didn't even know that my panic attacks and my condition have a name - anxiety) but nevertheless I asked them if they know does the red vine makes your mood go up or down! The two of them laughed loudly and said that it's a well known truth about red vine that it make's you go high. That's why (normal) so many people are drinking red vine or Bambus (red vine with Cola). So, everybody knew that red vine makes your blood pressure goes up except me! So from then till today I never drank a glass of red vine again. I just stick to my beer, wich I must say is much less poisoning and much more effective than Xanax or Valium (or at least my father says it is and he's a psychologist - he don't even want to hear about me using those drugs - he says he saw what those drugs made of healthy people and that it is terrible). And I must say beer never made me anxious or potent a panic attack. Just on the contrary, beer makes me feel better and fall a sleep easily! I will now copy and past a big part from one of my replies to one girls question... Sorry for that but there's no point

Extremely frustrating for me also!! I really enjoy having TWO beers on a Friday night after work, watching a game on TV or something like that. That is all I would have for the week, but since November I haven't touched alcohol, my night panic was getting much worse on the Friday nights.

Same thing here. I love gourmet cooking and wine just goes with it. Now even half a glass destroys the night. I just want to have my life back....the way it was.

Oh my gosh- I know just how you feel!! It's pretty pathetic we can't even enjoy one glass of wine- I/m not much of a drinker either, but I do enjoy a glass of wine here and there- when I do I can count on being up all night with panic attacks- and the next day is just as bad I don't know if it's from lack of sleep or what!!

Hi bygrace: I know what you mean. I wish I could relax and have a couple of drinks while I'm out. But, I feel the anxiety gets worse. I don't know if people who drink like that feeling of getting flushed and off balance, but I sure don't. It reminds me of having a Panic Attack, so I stay away from it when I'm out. Carol

I know I am not the only one. How many of you have found that drinking alcohol makes your anxiety/panic symptoms worse? In the past I could go out with my girl friends and have several drinks and be fine. I am talking like a year or more ago. Now, it is one glass of wine and that is it. If I drink more than that, my anxiety is awful. I will wake up all night long and be in the mid-panic zone. I am not a big drinker so it is not a big deal for me to not drink but it is frustrating knowing you are limited to "one glass" while out because you are fully aware of how your evening will go.
