Kristilu. I so know where you are at. I often have joked about quitting 703 times, when in reality it maybe was around 30. But 30????? You are that addicted, that is why you are having trouble quitting. I did the same, I could go three months and then bam, one upset and I was back at it. I didn't find this place until I was close to my final quit. I am thinking that maybe you're just not quite ready. It didn't dawn on me that I was an addict until I came here. Cigarettes are highly addictive. We are addicted to them. Some worse than others. I was one of the worse ones. There is a TV show about addiction on A&E, called "Intervention". It is about different kinds of addiction, alcohol, drugs, food, prescription medication, etc. It is about addicts and how they struggle to be free of their addictions. Bottom line, it shows you that when it comes to addiction, everyone is affected, everyone's life is changed. I tried to put myself in that place and realized that I can't have another puff of cigarette ever again, no matter what. That is when the lights finally came on. One of my quit buddies told me "Close that door to smoking and never look back." You will need to do more research Kristilu, to find out that your drug is killing you, and that there is only one road to freedom from it. When you figure that out, then you will be ready. We can tell you how to do it, and how you will feel etc etc, but we can't give you the desire or the committment - that has to come from within you! I do so wish you luck, and please do keep on trying, until it works. Never give up! Your freedom awaits! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 394 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,850 Amount Saved: $4,156.70 Life Gained: Days: 51 Hrs: 16 Mins: 5 Seconds: 9

Stay close, and read.. prepare... I know one day you want to.. and then you cave... your husband smokes. etc, you have probelms at work.. so you are still "working " the excuses.. You are almost ready.. and some days you are ready.. but just NOT quite committed. I have been where you are.. I wanted to quit,, knew I SHOULD quit.. People around me were "nagging" me to quit.. so i would quit.. for a few hours or a day or a few days.. oops then I would have just one.. or I would be so crabby... one would just settle me down for now.. I keptputting off buying the chantix.. but I could always come up with the $$ for a pack or a carton.. You WILL QUIT and you will get there.. you are probably learning something from each quit.. that quitting is NOT quite as bad as you thought it would be.. If I had a smoker here in the house.. or people around me smoking.. I would be having a very difficult time.. If you can cut down.. and follow the program.. this might be what works for YOU.. We each have our ways of dealing with this addiction.... Keep trying one day it is going to stick... and one day you WILL be committed enough to go more than a few days.. and remember ... we are ALL ONLY one puff away from being addicted AGAIN.. I am doing this one day at a time.. and I am doing WAY better than I ever expected to.... So hang in there little one.. every cigarette YOU Don't smoke... is still better... Changing, Sue, thank you for your tough love. I know what I must seem like to everyone here. Just someone who says they want to quit, but they really don't. Truth is, there are moments where I don't want to. Then there are times when I really do. It is those times when I post I guess and it should be the opposite way around. I know that you know what you are talking about (my lord look at your stats!), and that noone can quit for me, I have to do it alone. I thought that by posting today, even though I am not smoke free, that I might receive support in this method of quitting (which is no more than the preparation SSC suggests as an option). Yes I have been on here since January talking about quitting but never doing. I am not sorry that I stay here, because I learn from all of you veterans and even some of the newbies. I do not have anyone here to talk to about quitting, or cheer me on so to speak, or anyone that remotely knows anything about quitting an addiction,so I guess that's why I stick around. But, I get the feeling that I am being slightly nudged away until I am really quit ......... and that's okay I totally understand. I can see where I would not be a good example to the newbies. I just want you to know that in every other aspect of my life I am not wishy washy, weak or unsettled. It boggles my mind as well Sue, when I read what I posted before, and it frustrates me. I can understand why you would be like, " oh there's kristilu, she's still talkin about quittin". One day..... it will be " damn, kristilu finally quit" . xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Kristilu Here is your last quit post below mine - I don't remember you posting before giving up your 10+ days quit. Did I miss it? I am not trying to judge you hon, I am just saying, I don't know what to believe, I believe you meant it at the time, but you didn't do it - again. So I am back to what I originally said to you, when you want to quit more than you want to smoke you will. And listen I was the VERY same way. I tried and didn't do it, and I was ok with that, until one day I made a choice, my choice, for me and well I did it. I believe when you are ready you will too. All due respect to the SSC and and their program, ok? I believe it starts with you, and if you aren't in it, then all the programs in the world won't help you. Changing knows her stuff, you know it too Kristi, and when you are ready we will be here. I wish you all the very best and hope you do this really hard thing. xo Sue From Kristilu a few weeks ago************** I've been lurking and just reading lately. But I have made up my mind. Tomorrow will be the first day of the rest of my life. I am ready. I am ready to break this chain of addiction called nicotine and I am willing to go thru each day without a cigarette because I know it will get better day by day. I promise myself and all of my friends at the SSC that I will POST before I smoke. I cannot do this on my own, I will have to depend on friends and family and you guys for support. I will however, have to put myself first and guard my quit with all I have in order to maintain it. I am prepared to do that. I may be afraid at times, but I am stronger than the addiction and I am in control! Missed you guys! Glad to be back! Kristilu - The reason for my "tough love" post is that I have seen you go through this before - quit a day and then have the nicodemon roar it's angry head and talk you out of it. For example, on March 10th you posted: "Today I am reminded as to how stupid it is to start back smoking once you've already quit. Who wants to go thru the first few days over and over and over!!!. I hate to see you struggle & suffer this way; I want to do anything I can to help you push through this! Having said this, do what ever it is that YOU need to do. I appreciate how hard it is - I tried many times to quit before I was finally successful. So I am not here to judge. I really am routing for you! I believe in you and know you can beat this monster! All's well and good, Kristilu!!! Go through the whole program and read and understand the program well!! There are also more sites with even more information on quitting and overcoming addiction! Learn as much as you can and your preparation will pay off!!! I decided to go the Chantix route. I tried several times using various methods. The Chantix worked for me! It really minimized my cravings and I was able to quit. My insurance didn't cover my perscription, but I wanted to quit smoking so I shelled out the $115. Heck, it was a NO BRAINER!!! I spent more that that much for cancer sticks in a month!!! You really have to be committed though!!! SO, learn, prepare, commit, and then QUIT!!! We'll be here!! Hey Kristilu! I'll tell you what my Doctor told me. "Just keep trying to quit, until it works." You do what you gotta do! I feel bad that the other methods haven't worked for you, but it seems that, like every thing else in life, you have to find your own way and what works for you! I know you really want this, and it will come! I am proud of you! Keep on trying! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 393 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,825 Amount Saved: $4,146.15 Life Gained: Days: 51 Hrs: 15 Mins: 15 Seconds: 41

This is what I got from the SSC ???? Many people believe that will power is all it takes to quit. But, you now know that's not true its more about brain power than will power. As weve learned, it takes planning, support, coping skills, and a few changes to your daily habits. Since your quit date is approaching, theres some things you need to review and some final preparations to make. Other people who quit successfully followed this countdown plan. Continue to take steps every day to reduce the amount you smoke. Continue to delay the first cigarette of the day and delay additional cigarettes for 15 minutes. Divide your daily intake tobacco by 1/4. The reduced number is now the most tobacco youll consume in one day. Example 1: Your daily intake is 20 cigarettes 4 = 5 less per day. Your new daily intake is now 15 cigarettes. Example 2: You usually chew or dip 6 times a day 4 = 2 chews per day. Your new daily intake is now 4 chews or dips. Carry only your daily intake with you. Leave the rest at home or hide them in a place where you wont be tempted to pick up your remaining cigarettes or pouch or tin. Develop a strict schedule for your tobacco use. No more than one cigarette or chew every hour or so, or Break your cigarettes in half. This will cut your tobacco intake in half. Go to you Passport to Success and review your Benefits for Quitting results to reinforce the great decision youve made to quit. Go to you Passport to Success and review your Coping Plan results to better prepare yourself for dealing with urges. Dump all of your smoking gear. Throw out (dont hide actually throw out) all ashtrays, lighters, matches and any other articles that have to do youre your addiction. So, by the time your quit date arrives, the last thing youll do is toss your last pack. Make a ritual of this process: most people say this exercise is rewarding and symbolic of their new life. Congratulations! Sorry Changing, I knew that my post would stir people up, but I'm trying this, because obviously it's worth a try or SSC wouldn't have printed it, and also because nothing else has worked for me. I just want to quit, I don't care how. And this is something I didn't try. I haven't prepared this way. Understand?

I'm going to give you some tough love here... WHAT?!?! It sounds like the nicodemon is playing some major mind games with you. Cutting down? What's that? If you & I were able to cut down & smoke less often we wouldn't be chronic smokers/nicotine addicts! People get defensive and say that their experience is unique and this is what is best for them, etc. But, this is a defense (created by your addiction). Please don't do this!!!! I'm here to support you and I don't mean to be bossy or intrusive or a know-it-all. It just strikes a chord with me because I've been down this road! Please let us know how we can help you get your quit back... P.S. I know this post will anger many...but I'd rather have people angry at me than dead from smoking!
