venting is a good and necessary thing! That's what is great about this site, everyone here understands, unlike our family members who may have never smoked or never quit. OF COURSE we are not going to agree that "I am just saying that" because we are not! If smoking weren't horrible we would probably all be doing it. Come here and vent when you need it, I know it really helps for me! Stay strong and remember for your family's sake, they can't understand something that they themselves haven't been thru. I understand Sassy.. I am a few days from 50. I know "I" don't really want one... but I do... It is rainy and cold out today... so I am glad I am not standing outside trying to get my fix. Read "Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit" come here and scream and know you aren't alone. Hi Sassy, Congratulations on your 50 days! You're doing an amazing thing for yourself and your loved ones by quitting smoking. I'm proud of you and want you keep up the great job. I know it isn't easy, but quitting can be done. It may be hard to believe this, but I don't think you have to feel horrible about "giving up something good". Educate yourself on the harmful aspects of nicotine additction. Knowledge of this addiction is so powerful. We can then use our power to set ourselves free from this crippling addiction. What's so good about smoking anyways? Can you really name just one positive thing about smoking? How about the smell or taste (honestly, smoking stinks and tastes terrible doesn't it)? Is there anything good about the damage caused to our lungs, heart or circulatory system? Can cancer, COPD or stroke that smoking can give us at any time be good? Do we want the stained fingers, burn holes, brown rotting teeth or the lost money smoking burns up? If I feel deprived, I know it's time to make another list of pros and cons to see what it really was that I thought I liked about smoking. Then I can know that the "wanting a cigarette right now" feeling isn't coming from me, it's coming from my addiction. I've prepared for those times with concrete things to do to distract, delay or replace my cravings (examples are chewing straws, drinking water, eating mints or laughing at a good joke). I've learned most of my triggers and changed my routines to avoid them. I know exactly what you mean when about the deprived feeeling. I also know we can turn that deprived feeling around. I've learned to think, when this craving is over (in about 3 minutes), it's one less craving I'll ever have to endure. I think there are a limited number of cravings for every one of us. Soon the cravings do subside and eventually they exist no more. Smoking is only an addiction to nicotine. Plain and simple, there's nothing good about addiction except beating it down and living our lives in freedom. Millions of people are doing it. I am doing it. You can do it too! Wishing you all the best. :) Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 425 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 17,000 Amount Saved: $5,950.00 Life Gained: Days: 51 Hrs: 22 Mins: 30 Seconds: 59

Heck, I still get a twinge of jealousy when I see someone looking all relaxed puffing away. The thing is, that if I happen to be downwind and get a whiff of the smoke I end up choking on it - which tells me I have no tolerance for it any more and that I definately wouldn't be feeling all relaxed if i were to have one. Smoking was a huge comfort to me sometimes...settled me down when I was angry, took the place of a snack if I had the munchies, greeted me first thing in the morning and got me started on my day no matter how awful I looked or felt, kept me company when I was lonely and was a great drinking buddy. All that aside, it's a deadly and super addictive drug and the companies that market them are always tweaking the product to make it even more addictive, faster. I used to talk about my 97 year old Grandma who smoked until she was 86 and lived a long and healthy life. As if that would make me immune. The fact is, the cigarettes the generations before us were smoking are a far cry from the high potency, toxic, and deadly product we have now. Hang in there sassy, you can make it through this and sadly, there are people who really think it's helpful to minimise someones discomfort and feelings. All the best to you My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 566 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,640 Amount Saved: $11,320.00 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 10 Mins: 27 Seconds: 43

hi there all of you non-smokers. a bit of venting here... so i am on day #50 and never thought i would make it this far. my husband and daughter are very proud of me which is helpful...BUT...when i express my 'wish i could have a cigarette right now' i am told "no you don't, you're just saying that...you're all done with that now" so although it may appear that i am handling things..it is still as much of a battle as it was 22 days ago - and although i am no longer smoking in my sleep - i still feel jealous when i see people standing outside their buildings smoking a cig and looking relaxed...so i am pissed that i still want one and pissed that my family thinks i'm 'just saying that'....it isn't easy and it's not fun and i should be able to say that anytime i want! hmmpf and snort. i feel better now. thanks. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/7/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,500 Amount Saved: $637.50 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 17 Mins: 53 Seconds: 25
