Hi Bobbie: I don't have panic disorder myself but my girlfriend does. We've been living with it for just over a year. She too, is trying to get through the anxiety without the use of meds. She did however during the rough spots take some vitamin suppliments: B Vitamin complex and magnesium in liquid form (doesn't taste good but apparently helps the symptoms). She found they helped her stay calm without the wierdness that meds produce. Then she could concentrate on the behavioural technics she studied with her therapist to try to control the panic. Hang in there.

Hi Bobby-I am right there with you-I have been dealing with anxiety for about a year and I really really do not want to take meds either. I can not tkae cold medicine or anything....I almost can't even drink a beer anymore because I do not like the fact that it makes me feel different and wierd and I already feel like that most of the time with nothing in my system!!! It is so frustrating. I just wish there was some perfect pill that would just make you feel completely normal and carefree-the way we all were before this started! I am doing the program too-I do not think I am as far as you yet-Not working on gettting out and about yet. It actually has been over a month since I have left my small town...So I do not think I ahve even been more than a couple miles from my house. The thought scares me becasue at home I am safe. Anyway, Just thought I would say Hey-I know how you feel. Crystal

Bobby, Welcome, You have come to the right place! Please continue to share your thoughts with us. There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you. We are all a group of individuals who support each other. There are different types of therapy out there. Some therapies involve talking about the past in an attempt to understand the problem and develop some strategies for coping, etc. The Panic Program is not talk therapy. It's not about medications either. It's a treatment program that's all about getting you "actively involved" in your own improvement. How great is that? It teaches you things you may not understand about panic and agoraphobia, your own panic, your own panic cycle, and as you learn and "get involved", you begin the journey and the process of taking back control from a fear that at the moment is controlling you. It works this way: The Program guides you through the process of getting back this control. It prepares you for this, one single step at a time, and gives you some homework to bring you along from session 1 to session 2, and onward, in a series of 12 sessions over a period of twelve weeks. Many people want help for their panic and can't afford therapy. The Panic Program is offered free of charge to you. Don't pass up this opportunity. Hope this helps, Josie ______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.

You just have to start to retrain your mind... change the patterns of thought, that are personal to you... I think it's like learning a second language, you need to teach your brain to look at things from a different angle. Good luck, stick with CBT, its takes awhile but when you start to see improvments, you feel great! Katie

Hello all, I'm new to site and just started reading The Panic Program. I've had Anxiety/Panic disorder for a few years now. I've been able to deal with it for the most part, although I did take Paxil for about 8 months when it first started but I didnt like it. I could talk about this all day, but my concern right now is that I'm trying anything to help other than meds. I just think it would make things worse as I would be constantly thinking about this pill messing with my head. I barely like to take Advil etc.. for headaches in fear of them making me feel different. Anyways my problem has been a little worse lately for some reason and I have been avoiding doing a lot of things. I haven't had a full blown Panic Attack in over a year, but I have bad anticipatory anxiety or agrophobia, I basically know when I'm gong to have a Panic Attack. Although I've had this problem for a few years, lately I can't even go visit family (which was fine until a few months ago) without thinking I'm going to have a Panic Attack. At first my biggest thing was feeling trapped, I always had to have my own car in case I wanted to leave somewhere. But now I can't even drive people in my car as I still feel trapped having them with me. Anyways, I'll stop myself rambling there. The one problem I see with the Panic Program or CBT is that you teach yourself to go to these places you dont want to go. Up until recently most of the time I was anxious about doing something I was usually fine once I got there, but lately I cant even get there. As well I could be anxious about going to the same place 100 times over being fine for each 100 visits. But the 101st time I'll STILL have anxitey even though I know I was fine for the first 100 times! So I don't know how CBT is going to help me...
