Bless your hearts, both of you!! I will go to the web site and check it out. Seems like there are just so many hours in the day and with a sick Mom and a sick husband, and two kids at home and a myiad of animals and a part time job...I rarely find time for little ole me. I keep saying one of these days I will drop and then they will all be in trouble!! HaHa! But, yes, it is true, the burn out for caregivers and the amount of stress is unbelieveable..once again, all the wonderful people I have met on here are helping me in ways I had no idea they could! Just went out to a wonderful dinner with the hubby to celebrate 50 days a couple days early! Yummy! Got a sitter for Mom and brough her home a treat to eat too. Thnaks for your kindness and support! Gay (yep, it's my real name) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 48 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 864 Amount Saved: $183.60 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 18 Mins: 41 Seconds: 4

Hi Patrick and Island girl it is strokenetworkdotorg I am on Staff there... i wasn't sure if we were aloud to post other sites. I have been a member there several years. and I am the stroke support coodrinator. The site is warm and welcoming and full of wonderful people...like here. Care Givers are awesome... but caregiver burn out is REAL and you are doing a fantastic job with you quit. There are lots of tips, and help. Respite care for even a few hours a week, so you can get out and get your hair done, have lunch with a friend .. go for a walkm the library.. just to keep yourslef sane.. and a reward for quitting... Please ... take care of yourself.. you made a Big step by Quitting.. but it is Not the only step... Bonnie... I got it by Googling it (strokecaregiverdotnet) Is that the one you mean? There are quite a few on the Web... Islandgirl, You really should follow Bonnie's advice and get some online support for yourself... that is a wonderful thing you are doing but you must keep your engine running strong first in order to keep on doing what you are doing... either that or spread the responsibility around other members of the family... inside or outside your home... The ramifications from unrecognised and unrelieved stress is about as detrimental as nicotine addiction, IMO!! Island Girl there is a wonderful stroke support group, it is for family, caregivers and survivors.. There is a CARE GIVER BILL OF RIGHTS. YOU need to have some time to yourself.. Caregiver burn out is very real. I am trying to get my IM thing to work. I downloaded IE7 then it works, but I have problems with 7.. so I went back to IE 6 and the IM thing wont work. I get an error code. I don't know if I am allowed to post the website of thestrokenetwork for people.. they also have a caregiver chat on Tuesday evenings. i will work on my IM maybe i can get it to work thru another browser My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/10/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 27 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 459 Amount Saved: $72.29 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 22 Mins: 46 Seconds: 33

Lainey, my Mom is 83, never smoked a day in her life, and had a stroke in her temporal lobe, it took out both of her optic nerves so she went from being fully sighted to totally blind overnight. She had no time to learn any coping skills, and still cannot do anything for herself. She has been with me for 8 yrs now 24/7. I am tired! and that is the reason I began smoking again. But, I am not going to cave in again! I can deal with it now that I have found this wonderful group of supportative people! Josie, I did read that somewhere. My Mother in law has it in both eyes. She is blind in one eye. She is almost 77 and still smokes. She now talks about maybe quitting, but I think it's just talk. It's unfortunate, but I don't think her Doctor told her its from smoking! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 369 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,225 Amount Saved: $3,892.95 Life Gained: Days: 48 Hrs: 10 Mins: 44 Seconds: 59

Members, In a recent study by scientist at Queens University, a link has been established between smoking and macular degeneration. Macular degeneration is known to cause blindness in the older adult. Smoking has also been linked to other forms of illness Colorectal, pancreatic, lung and other forms of cancer Diabetes Hypertension, heart disease, heart attack, stroke and peripheral vascular disease And much more!
