The Patch

Hi Renee - It is very very hard to quit especially with other smokers so close. Do they smoke outside? If not, is there the possibility of a designated smoking area somewhere?? My hubby is still smoking but (lucky for me) he took it outside without being asked. Having easy access to cigarettes was difficult during those bone-crunching craves at the beginning of the quit but, today, it doesn't make any difference to me. In fact, I just had supper at the home of smokers and, although I love their company, I can only handle the smoke for so long. One year later, I have no desire to pick up that cigarette. When you are ready, there will be lots of people here ready to support you! Good luck.. Renee it does seem to be so much harder than quitting drinking, but I have to refer to what Nonic say's about our willingness to do the quit. As with anything in life I believe that we have to be at that jumping off place before we are ready to change. I hope that for you it is soon. If not, then just keep trying and coming here. It will work for you when the time is right. Renee, Yes, it is harder to quit when smokers are a constant presence. That is not to say it can't be done. Many here have! Rework the tools of the program. Formulate a quit plan and look back on your relapse. What lessons can you draw from it? Don't be so hard on yourself. Slips happen. Learn from it and move on! Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

I'm not using the patch anymore and I hate to say this but I'm smoking again. Its hard to quit when you live with smokers. Thats why I haven't been posting. I feel really bad about this. I want to quit, this is much harder than drinking! Renee You have a tough road there with the other smokers being around. It is hard for me to comment on that as I did not have to face that challenge. However, I do hope that you will remember that the patch is a tool and a very good one. A tool is an instrument that is utilized in order to complete a task. In this case the task is cessation. A paint brush is only effective in relation to the skills of the artist in whose hand it lives. So too is it true that an NRT is useful only to the degree that we exhibit the will and compassion within ourselves to teach ourselves how not to smoke. I used the patch as a way of teaching my inner self that it did not need to smoke. This is done by continually confronting the situations in which we are most likely to smoke sans cigarettes. It is a good tool, but only a tool at the end of the day. Good luck to you. I promise you that you can be free of the addiction if you commit yourself, want it badly enough and believe in your most secret of hearts that it is possible. nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 439 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,170 Amount Saved: $4,609.50 Life Gained: Days: 81 Hrs: 20 Mins: 1 Seconds: 22

Hey Renee! Welcome to the SSC! Do some reading here. Do the porgram if you haven't already. There is so much information here that will really help you learn what you need for quitting. Can your roomies smoke outside?? I did the patch too, many times, and this time it worked wonderful for me, but I had to face the fact that I am an addict and I had to treat myself as such. You have to want to quit, more than you want to smoke! Hook up your quit meter too, its a great motivator to see your stats grow daily. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 366 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,150 Amount Saved: $3,861.30 Life Gained: Days: 48 Hrs: 2 Mins: 57 Seconds: 54

I started te patch this week and then strted smoking again and then went back on the patch today. I hope it workss this time. I'm lving wih two other smokers, so to find a pack is really easy. I guess I'll have to replace smoking with something else to do.
