Hey Cassy: Just noticed our quit date is the same. Well if you have been following the posts, I slipped on Friday night and had two cigarettes. I have learned from that though and have promised myself not to do that again. At first I felt really angry and ashamed, but have turned it around as a positive experience. At least I know that I want to STOP smoking more than wanting to continue. So now here we are going into our fourth week. Most days are good for me, although I must say I feel kind of teary. It seems like I could cry at the drop of a hat. I don't have strong cravings as much as thoughts. I tell myself that they are just thoughts and try to distract myself by doing something else. For me knitting helps. I think everyone in my neighborhood will be wearing a new sweater at the rate I am going. Good luck to you in your fourth week. You are doing great!

Thanks everyone for letting me vent, and for responding. Today is a lot better. Well maybe not a lot but much. I'm hanging in there thanks to all of you. Thank you everyone. It does sound great to say that "I don't smoke!" I had the pleasure of saying that once today and it felt nice. I used to always envy the people that would say that. Now I'm one of them. All of us are.

It does get better, and don't let the blues get you down! Try vitamin B complex, it helps. Its time for rewards too, you've made it past those weeks so give yourself a gift. Hey Cassy week 1- hell week 2- heck week 3- Down in the dumps The best news is that each week is easier.. I just encourage you to find something to get smoking off your mind.... Maybe a movie & a big box of popcorn.. I loved lavender baths, while reading Allen Carr's book.... PS.. my husband still smokes and has no plans to quit!!! he coughs every 20 min. he actually motivates me NOT TO SMOKE!!! Good luck & hand in there!! Hey Cassy. Maybe this 3rd week that you are talking about could be called "mourning week". remember we all lost our "best friend" someone who was there for us thru thick and thin, someone who never stressed us out, just made us "feel better" gave us that "relaxed" feeling when nothing else could. Always was there to join us for coffee or a drink, never talked back or argued, just made us feel a little better. I got rid of my "friend", no more toxic people in my life anymore, and yet, still sometimes i miss that friend. Cassy! Oh my God, your post spoke for EXACTLY what I am feeling today. Its my third week and my goodness its been hard today. Also, my husband hasn't quit. We live in an apt building so I let him smoke out the bedroom window (when I am in the living room). However, today, he now says he will quit on Friday (instead of tomorrow). He keeps pushing the date and well, I didn't react very nicely. I know its not MY choice for him to quit. He has got to want to do it himself. Its just sometimes, I don't think he realizes HOW HARD this has been for me. To even just smell it is torture. It wouldnt be so hard if he hasn't been saying he was going to quit. If I had just realized that he isn't ready then I wouldn't have tolerated smoking in our apt...b/c in the long run, I just can't hack it. Thanks so much for letting me vent. I really really needed it today!

Welcome to the world of quitting. It really does get better, promise, all you have to do is not light up and like Maire says do it one day at a time. Hubby will survive. There are lots of spouse that are still living in spite of our quits :eg: Just hang in there. It sounds like you're having a tough day. So, the good news is you're normal and the bad news is you'll have more of these yucky days. It's all part of the process. Just think of how profoundly smoking was effecting you that it would cause such horrific withdrawal. That alone should be incentive to keep going! Remember, you CAN do this. You ARE doing this.
