Thank both of you so much. I am so happy I found SSC before trying to quit this time. It is so nice to know that there are some amazing people here who are willing to take time out to help us newbies. The wave has passed now... and I'm still on the surfboard! BigD, The first three days are the most difficult. After that, I had significant improvement in how I felt. It was still pretty difficult through the first week (known as hell week around here), but it does get better quickly. I'd say if you can minimize stressful situations for the first couple of weeks, that's a good idea. Hang in there, that's the only way it will get better! Hey Big D, The short answer is yes. For most of us there is so much stuff wrapped up in our smoking that it can seem overwhelming to just pull it out of our lives so abruptly. Also, you said that things were okay at work - where there is more routine I'm assuming and so you can better anticipate triggers. Those you can plan for but the unexpected can be a little rougher. Try to come up with some strategies for surprises like deep breathing, drinking water, or just walking away if possible. Time will make things easier and each time you face a strong trigger you wear it down a little bit. It also gives you positive reinforcement for the next craving. If you know you made it past the last one you can definitely make it through the next. Getting through these first days is a big deal so be sure to reward yourself too. Even if it's something small - download a new mp3, new golf balls, or renting a movie - it will keep your spirits up and give you motivation for getting through each rough patch. You are doing great. My first day of quitting and got to admit, it isn't easy. Thought that venting here might be theraputic for me... I was doing so well all day at work, and even went to the gym to keep my mind off smoking. Hit a wall though. A simple disagreement with management at the gym caused me to have a huge nic fit, to the point where I almost lost it. I guess I've learned to avoid ALL stress for a bit :confuse: Does it get easier after a few days???
