I just realized that I may be a little too preachy about my quit and although I like posting and helping others, I will lay off a bit. I really thought I had this thing licked but I just realized from Mary's post that I am not out of the woods yet. I didn't realize that it is actually easy to slip, and thought that by today I would never smoke again. Thanks to your post Mary as it demonstrates that I have to work much harder at this than I thought. This helps me remember to keep my guard up and have all of the tools available all of the time. I'm sorry to hear you slipped, but I know you can do it and you will find a time that is right for you. I look forward to seeing you on here again when you are ready to give it another shot. Don't be hard on yourself, accept, move on and then try again. Good luck with everything and thanks for posting! Mary, We're sorry you slipped but it is often part of the quitting process. Learn from your experience and ask yourself these questions: Why did I slip? What did I learn from this relapse? Am I ready to quit? Why do I want to quit? What are my benefits of quitting/keeping smoking? Once you have these answers set your quit day and come on back for the support you need. Mary, go through the program tools and the workbook, if you haven't already. Start a quit journal and collect information. Read, read, read about the process. The more informed you are, the better. As long as you are putting nicotine into your body, you will continue to feed your addiction and go through withdrawals...4 smokes a day = 4 withdrawals. You can do this, Mary! Just stay here with us and we will help. i wont say anything, cos you already know the drill. you're post explains 2 things to me. 1) you don't really want to stop smoking.
& only allow myself not more then 4 a day.
2) you haven't learnt about your addiction to nicotine. as i've mentioned a squillion times... Knowledge is the key see you back here soon.... all the best for your family. Mary, I'm afraid that a slip does very often lead to relapse, in fact most often leads to relapse. Please do not be too down - many of us have taken a number of quit attempts before we succeeded for good.
