Quitting Related Depression?

for 17 år siden 0 5195 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Kelly, I have learned more about depression in the last 2 plus years than I even thought possible. Hand on tight. Take some deep breaths. Make sure to practice H.A.L.T. Hungry Angry Lonely Tired. Stay away from these. They will make your life really difficult! You are doing great and going through depression. This is a support site. No One is up all the time. When you need support, reach out your hand. That is why we are here. Don't be depressed. I think you are awesome! Hey, c.k. It will pass, buddy. Exercise & extra sleep did it for me, and of course, chocolate goes without saying. I felt pretty blah around that same time. It seems so long ago now, I don't remember exactly how long it lasted. I want to say about a week? Remember to keep rewarding yurself & if you feel blecchhh, then do whatever makes you feel better, just like at the beginning. If you want, I'll meet you in the treehouse & we can eat Haagen Dasz & do each other's toes & watch Fried Green Magnolias. That worked for Lainey. Plus, the elder quitters tell us that around six months all those bouts of depressions are long gone...which is about right with my experience as well. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 247 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,175 Amount Saved: $2,605.85 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 5 Mins: 48 Seconds: 28

Kelly! Lots of us had it. I actually once googled "depression when quitting smoking" and got 7801 sites with info, so you know its very common! I had several bouts, and I found that Vitamin B complex really helps. (1 a day high potency) And on the days when that didn't do it, I got Vitamin B-12, 1000 mcg, and that worked wonderfully! I didn't go to my Doc because she likes to throw prescriptions way too much and I did not want to take antidepressants. Had the vitamins not worked, then I would have gone. Its certainly worth a try, they're only vitamins, and they won't kill you!(Non addicting as well) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 247 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,175 Amount Saved: $2,605.85 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 5 Mins: 47 Seconds: 49

Hey kelly, I'm not near your time but the last two days I have been really depressed as well. This is the reason all my other quits have failed in the past. This quit I decided I would come to this board and post instead of lurking and that I would stay positive no matter what. I have ate so much tart candy I now have big soars in my mouth. It's better than smoking. I just keep telling myself positive things. Even if I don't beleave it. I won't let myself get sucked into my own pity-party this time. Your not alone on this, but the depression will pass. hang in there!!! Hey Kelly, sorry to hear your feeling down. I have to admit I did feel like that a couple of days last week. Couldn't do anything, I was just useless and feeling useless. Apparently the withdrawal can cause some of those feelings but I wonder for how long though. You seem to have a pretty good quit going so there could be something else in your life that would trigger them or at least make them stronger. Just remember we'll always be here if you need a shoulder/ear to share your thoughts. Keep strong chica and focus on the wonderful things you've achieved already :). Kelly, It is very normal and has a medical reason. When you smoked your brain shut down some endorphine sensors so you wouldn't be overloaded by the serotonin smoking makes. You just didn't need all your receptors when you smoked. Your body did this to protect you. After quiting many feel some depression as those receptors don't get turned back on all at once. So you are a little low on serotonin....or the body receiving the serotonin. You can boost those levels by exercise..chocolate...or if severe your doctor can help you. I drank St Johns wart tea...and even took some capsules for awhile (don't take unless you check with you doctor) I also walked my dog twice a day. OHHHHHH DID I FORGET TO SAY....I UPPED MY HERSHEY BAR CONSUMPTION!! :p Hang in there..... your doing AWESOME. I almost hate to even post this. I usually try to stay as positive as possible and very rarely ask for help...very rarely let myself get too down without scolding myself and telling me to get over it and get on with it. But... I've been feeling very sensitive and down and irritable and yes, very likely I've been feeling depressed. I know my brain is experiencing changes as is my body so all these odd (and sometimes overwhelming) feelings could be due to the adjustments from lack of nicotine...or I could be really going thru a depression. Has anyone else experienced these feelings around the same time in their quit? Do you guys think this is smoking/quitting related or is it more likely that it is independant of my quit? (oh, no need to add the disclaimer. I plan on seeing a doctor :)) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 74 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,220 Amount Saved: $432.90 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 16 Mins: 13 Seconds: 29
