I found this on the Family Practice Website. It is just a small excerpt. Easy to find on the web... Precautions: Major Depression Initial risk of Major Depression exacerbation Higher risk in first 6 months of Tobacco cessation Confirm Major Depression control prior to cessation Consider Bupropion use for cessation Glassman (2001) Lancet 357:1929-32 It's taken from a clinical outline on smoking cessation. Interesting stuff. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 94 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,820 Amount Saved: $549.90 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 9 Mins: 24 Seconds: 58

Members, When you smoked, nicotine triggered the release of neurotransmitters in your brain. These neurotransmitters are responsible for good mood. When you quit, it isn't uncommon to experience some depression. These feelings are temporary and will pass. It will take different lengths of time for each person but they will go away. Here are a few tips that can help to stimulate your mood: * Exercise as it releases endorphins and these are also conducive to good mood. * Rewarding yourself with something pleasurable. This triggers the same release of neurotransmitters we mentioned. * Get outside and get adequate rest as these also affect your mood. Please feel free to share your experiences and what worked for you! Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi Kelly, I also am going thru some sort of depression, deciding not to take any antidepressants, mine is more marital/love triangle won't say anymore, very depressing.... i also wonder to why did i choose to quit smoking when i did considering everything i'm going thru and what i'm feeling, but i was doing really well, up until a couple of weeks ago, and i am not as strong, i did break and smoked for a couple of days, thinking that's what i needed, and personally for me at that time it did help, thankfully, once again i'm choosing not to smoke, for now, i keep saying to myself do it for today, see for tomorrow... I have never posted here before, thinking who would want to read this, but i think i needed this. thanks Kelly. Kelly, I can fully understand not wanting to write if you don't have anything positive to say I have often thought on the same lines. However, don't feel afraid to write just because you might not have a funny comment. We are here for the good, the bad and the ugly and a problem shared can often be a problem obliterated. My hand is always extended to you. Best wishes and HUGE HUGS. p.s. you really have this smoking thing licked more than a liking thing in a liking shop. Hi kelly, Thanks for posting! Don't hide from here when you are feeling a little down, your posts have sincerity stamped all over them. I know you are 88 days young but you do know that you've got this thing beaten already, don't you? It may be hard to accept at times like now but believe me, you are a wise young lady and all you need to do is see it through when you pop your head out the other side, boy, I'm telling you, it's even more stunning than you might think today. Just keep those eyes on the prize and know that we are here for you. Wishing You Well, Penitent d1282 :)

Kell, there is no doubt in my mind, that you helped alot of quitters with your post and thank you for that! It is a very ccmmon side effect of quitting smoking and new quitters need to know that, and they need to know that we can talk about it, it's not something we need to sweep under the rug. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 260 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,500 Amount Saved: $2,743.00 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 20 Mins: 8 Seconds: 8

Kelly Thank you for letting us know how you are. I wish I could give you an easy answer, but I have been around long enough to know that is not possible. The good thing is that you sound as if you have centered on the difficulty and are taking action. That is a good thing. You now know full well that quitting for some is not a one dimentional act. There are reasons that we began smoking. You seem to be a person who expresses outwardly and that is a good thing, because when things hurt us deeply, the ability to visualize, quantify and describe are invaluable. I too sought a therapist in the early days, and was lucky enough to find one that fit the bill. I see him often and it has been a great help to me. So you do what you need to do. Stay well and let us know if we can help... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 330 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,900 Amount Saved: $3,465.00 Life Gained: Days: 60 Hrs: 7 Mins: 58 Seconds: 29
