I don't know if 40 days is a time you're supposed to mark, but I let day 30 pass, so I thought I'd make 40 my own personal milestone.
It's amazing how someone here can say a simple line that will resonate with you weeks later. The last few days I've been thinking a lot about "Even non-smokers have bad days". That has been important to hear. Not smoking does not cause me to have a bad day - and non-smokers who have bad days don't pick up a cigarette to make their day better.
Would I like to have a cigarette today? Yep. But not nearly as much as I did 40 days ago. And there is a growing sense of pride and moments of comfort and real joy. Yesterday, I ran 5 miles. Today, the sun is shining. Definitely a good day.
I can't wait to see how day 60 is going to feel.
