No meds????

Good on you for sticking to your guns! I've tried to get over my panic/anxiety firstly with meds and then without. The meds worked great for about 2 years but then didn't do a thing for me so I went off them. The thing with meds is that they are a bandaid solution. They do work but they don't teach you how to handle the situations on your own. By staying away form meds you have to learn coping methods yourself and what you learn stays with you for life. See a counsellor/psych, get educated (internet, books, group therapy) and stay motivated!! You will be glad you did :)

I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder about 7 years ago (or so). At the time I was asked if I wanted medication and refused it. I saw a counselor (not sure if she was a psycologist or a psyciatrist) who was really helpful. I was able to control my anxiety and panic (except in certain situations, like freeway driving) unil just recently. About a month ago or so, my panic got so bad that I decided to use medication. When I was battlng the panic before without medication, it was hard but I did it. I don't feel bad about using medication this time. I know it's temporary and I'm seeing a counselor (unfortunately my last counselor moved her practice too far away to be practical for me to see her.) Rachel

Hey Sarah, when I found out what I had they tried to put me on Xffexor and something else but I did my research and found out bad things about them both and said that I wanted to work it out with my phycologist first and see how that goes as I don't want to be hooked on meds, that said I do take Adavan when it gets back to help me cope and move foward, that's once and a while though, it's hard and the doctor, who has also had this happen to him, said it's a tough road to walk without the help of drugs!

Hiya, I was just wondering if there is anyone else in the group here who are fighting their panic/anxiety disorder without any meds? I was put on meds when my panic first started up, and took myself off them. I've been meds free now for nearly 2 years, and i was wondering if anyone can understand how hard it is to do it by will power and mind over matter alone? Alot of people in here i'm aware take medication for their disorders... Am i the only one who goes without?! Dont get me wrong, i have been advised and offer meds to help me through it by doctors and my family, but i refuse, so it's my own choice. Just wondered if anyone else is doing the same? Sarah X
