Marie When I took a trip about a month into my quit I printed out "A Little Help for My Friends", which I'll try to find and bump up for you. Whenever I was tempted I took out that and read through it. it worked. I came home still not smoking, even though my good friend smoked and we drove from New Orleans to Tennessee with both her and her boyfriend smoking. The key is make preparations and stick to your plan. Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement!!! I honestly think I was ready for a bashing when I made that post. You all have helped me stop feeling so down about it and to get me back on the wagon with Unhooked hand! :) I went home at lunch, got my Chantix, and have taken .5mg of it, called my doc, he suggested trying .5mg twice a day, and see how I do on that. Hopefully it will help take the edge off! I'm going to be in the same situation again in less than 3 weeks, as we are going to another overnight trip to a football game, so I'm really going to have to get my guard up. Marie, Slips happen. Don't look at it as a failure but an opportunity for growth. Look at what went wrong and have a plan in place for that trigger or contributing factor. You may want to speak to your doctor about your Chantix dosage as it may be possible to change it in order to minimize your symptoms. Keep close. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi Marie- Good for you for not giving up!! I'm using Chantix to help me quit and I don't know if I could have quit without it. Chantix bothered my stomach at first, but then I made sure to eat something with it and now it doesn't bother me at all! YOU CAN DO IT! Marie, number 1 step is stop beating yourself up. It won't accomplish anything & actually will put you in more danger of letting a slip become a full relapse. Number 2 is put a strategy in place for that trigger so it doesn't happen again. While you're doing that, get out all your coping strategies & get ready to start again. Number 3 is get Chantix or whatever you think you need to get it done. Number 4, take my hand, get right back up on the wagon & do not look back. Number 5, always know you are not alone, there is help & support here. The days you already had in are not wasted & you are not a failure. Those days are proof that you can succeed. Just carry on, Marie. I slipped over the weekend, the hubby and I went out of town to a football game, we tailgated with some friends before the game, a little bbq, a few drinks and I picked up the hubby's smoke and had a few puffs from it.....oh how I regret it!! Haven't had any more though since that. Now I'm fighting hard to not start back up again, and am thinking of going back on the Chantix (which I had quit taking as it was bothering my stomach, and I was having trouble sleeping), to help me cope, I think it is getting to be too much all on my own, the temptation is getting to be too overwhelming, my willpower is slipping and I'm afraid of doing it again. I've beat myself up horribly over this and feel like such a failure, I had come so far and now this. Hang on tight. You have 9 nicotine free days and the demon is wanting a fix. Don't even think about loosing those days. You don't want to have to go through that again. Who cares who else smokes. You don't. Take pride in that.A Positive attitude is the only one you can afford if you want to keep you quit. I sound tough now but I was just like you. I really didn't think I was going to make it for three weeks. Today I have 4 months. Use the site. Breathe deep and move through the craves. Read, cry, post. Just don't smoke.
