Hard Time Of It

[/quote] You definitely need to make some different plans to take control of your thoughts. One of the ways to do that is to identify what each separate crave is about. Is it a morning coffee crave? an "I just finished a task now it's time to reward myself" crave? Is it an "Oh, I need one before I go to work" crave? Is it "I finished work and now it's time to smoke"? Once you figure out what the particular trigger is, you can plan a different activity or mini reward for that time. For me it got to be kind of a game. I would note the crave, especially once I could anticipate it, and do some pretty powerful self talk, arguing with the junkie, telling him I wasn't going to smoke because I am a non smoker. Other times I would reward myself with something simple like a glass of iced tea, other times a quick walk. Through the early months I stayed really close to this site, reading and reading, and posting. Quitting smoking was something I wanted to do, it was a challenge, and i wanted to be the winner in this battle. Please keep battling on. We all want you to succeed. Gin, some of the earlier advice I got here was about Powering through. Every time you push past a crave it gives you power for the next one. When you power through a big one the next day seems easier. I think it actually is easier. Knowing you can do it is very powerful. You've got the power. Gin, You've gotten a lot of support here. Smoking isn't a relief. It actually starts the process all over again. It is difficult early in the quit to even imagine that there will be better days. You will learn to function without the crutch of the cigarette. The cigarette has enslaved you for many years. It doesn't want to let you go either. You are an addict going through withdrawal. Unfortunately, the only way to get over it is to go through it. Remember how horrible you feel now and think of that anytime you think of smoking. I know I couldn't do hell week again! So don't light up and you will be fine. Keep hanging in there. There are many ways to distract yourself during these hard times. Do you have things you can do (yes, even at 5:30 in the morning), like reading or looking at a favorite magazine, drinking tea, reading a newspaper, writing in a journal, etc. The first month, distracting yourself when your bored and the craves are worse is very important. Keep a list of reasons you quit smoking close to you and read them often to remind yourself often of why your doing this. Keep Posting!!!! Congrats you two, four days and kicking ash! Yes it is a struggle, it is a mental struggle! Just keep telling yourself "Smoking is not an Option, Not One Puff Ever." You are both through the very worst of it, and now each day will be a little bit better. Time does go fast, keep busy and all of sudden you will go "Hey, no more cravings!" Rewards really help too! Hi Gin, you and I have the same quit date. I have the same urges as well, but have utilized my coping techniques (water and deep breaths) and it's been working. Yesterday, I bought a new movie as a reward. This has been the longest without smoking for me and I felt proud of it.

Hello everybody Well, yesterday was hell for me...did everything in my power not to smoke and succeeded. Now, today is a little easier, but not by much. I get up early in the morning...5:30 a.m. and can't sleep any more. All I do is think about smoking and what a relief it would be if I did. But I know it's not a solution. It's a struggle is all I can say.
