Hi Lori, Venting does help. I use the boards for it all the time. and the morning smoke thing was such a habit for me. I still think about it sometimes but sometimes I don't. You will get better. you are in the early stages of your body healing. One morning (soon) you will get up and realize you haven't even thought about smoking. Hang in there. Mornings were never one of my worst times..maybe because I am so unawake in the mornings? ;) But maybe spending some time doing something else that makes you feel good would help? I don't know where you live, what you like, but anything that is a special treat, something you dont usually take the time to do, if you do it with the intention of it being "just for you", might help? painting your nails? writing a gratitude journal? walking around outside aimlessly? meditating? scrubbing a neglected spot? (shut up, unhooked! some people like doing that!!!) paging through a magazine? dancing to a fave cd? ..lol..ok, i've thought of a few, i'm sure you can think of more. The point being, now that you're free from spending those minutes in the morning smoking, you can do anything you want! Hi Lori. Yes, the mornings were the toughest part fro me at first but within a week or to, it was all better. Changing my routine (as Unhooked noted) really helped. I do love my coffee and be damned if I was going to give it up just for a damn cigarette. I still have my coffee every morning, usually while I surf here, and it tastes much better now! Lori, new me gave you some good advice and she's right that the morning is a tough time for a lot of us. Also, try a different routine in the morning. I take a shower & brush my teeth first thing. Sometimes my eyes aren't even open yet when I get into the shower. It also helps to change your physical surroundings, sit in a different chair to have your coffee or re-arrange your furniture or even your cupboards. Even a little change can confuse the junkie. She's persistent but not that smart! You're doing great, Lori, keep it up! Oh yes Lori, many quitters have the morning/coffee/cig cravings....me included. You could switch to green tea, herbal tea, or juice instead of coffee for a while. I found that after some time passed, I would just really be looking forward to my morning coffee. Drinking a nice big glass of water first thing in the am helps also. You are aware of what is going on and seem committed to not believing the lie.."I can't have this one thing that I really want". You do not really want a lifetime of addiction, smelly clothes and hair, chemically poison smoke in your body. This is the nature of getting rid of an addiction. congratulations of 2 +weeks smoke free...hang tough. Smoking does not wake you up..it drugs you out. Hi everybody - I just wanted to get this problem out there in the hopes that venting might take some of the struggle away. I'm having a really tough time with mornings. I want a cigarette badly every morning. I know it's not true, but I keep thinking that a cigarette would wake me up -- if I could just have a smoke then my day will be so much easier - and don't even talk to me about the lack of a smoke with my morning coffee!! It's not as hard later in the day, but each morning I'm finding myself feeling really deprived, irritated and just down right mad that I can't have this one thing that I really want! By about noon I'm ok and that huge feeling of deprivation is gone, but the mornings are bad. And to top it off - I already go to the gym and work out every morning. I was one of those really brilliant people who would work out and still smoke, as crazy as that sounds. So the exercise thing is already covered. I don't think I'm in real danger of having one, but that black feeling every morning is starting to get me down. Anyone else have this problem?
