Celexa?

for 20 år siden 0 30 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I don't really know much about this new "Lexapro" drug, but I know the chemical name for Celexa is Citalopram. It just recently ran out on its patent, and is now available as a generic. Although here in Canada, the doctor has to actually write "Citalopram" on the prescription for the pharmacist to be able to legally substitute the generic version. The cost difference is quite substantial though, especially if you're on a higher dose. I suspect the Lexapro is just a a slight deviation of Celexa to re-open a new patent.

I actually did talk with my doctor about the hormonal side effects and she said that the side effects could be very similar to that of an anxiety attack or just anxiety in general, dizziness, hot flashes, emotional etc. Sooo, I was somewhat prepared, but it still didn't prepare me enough for what I was about to face. I also didn't know about the depression factor and I did suffer much worse depression while on the drug even though I was taking my anti-depressants. I also know that everyone is different. But I think that "we" are much more sensitive to the way our bodies feel and react so we tend to overreact. I have two more months on the clomid then I am done. It will be five months all together. Hi ladies! I also took Clomid and though I don't remember it effecting my anxiety the depression was pretty bad. DEFINITELY be upfront with the doctors about your anxiety problems!!! Explain your fears about these hormonal drugs causing mood changes, etc. I wish I would have gone an anti-depressant or something at the same time. Or, barring that at least been prepared for what I was to face and be able to make a decision about it. Rachele

Hi Sarah, I would love to talk with you about this. Please email me personally at festivefeet@yahoo.com and we can talk more about this. I thought personally would be better because it is such a personal issue. To answer your question though, yes, clomid made my anxiety symptoms much worse. Not so much so that I just wanted to throw the towel in but it has significantly changed my symptoms. Hope to hear from you. FestiveFeet <><

Hi Festivefeet, I hated Celexa - it was one of the worst ones I tried. But, that's just me. I'm one of those people who cannot tolerate anti-depressants. I did have one question for you, though. You and I seem to be in the same boat regarding infertility (I have PCOD). Did you find that your panic became worse when you started the Clomid? We have an appointment with a fertility specialist next month and I'd like to be prepared. Sarah :)

festivefeet, Keep in mind that everyone is different and what works for one may or may not for someone else. Work cooperatively with your Doctor to determine the best fit for you. If you are unclear about what your Dr. tells you about the medicine then ask your pharmacist. The pharmacist is a wonderful resource when it comes to learning about side effects, efficacy, changing meds etc... Communication is key..... Take care and I hope the medicine change is a positive one for you! brenda :)

I have taken the panic test. Even before I took the test I had already been diagnose with Panic Anxiety Disorder and Depression. I have suffered for about 3 years now. It started when I was about 24. I have done some counseling, but mostly I have researched and read many books to help myself cope and learn techniques. I was doing preetty good until I started taking Clomid to assist with our infirtility. FestiveFeet <><

FESTIVEFEET Try to ask a lot of questions from your doctor. Tell him your concerns about your medications. Some medications do take an adjustment period. Take the Panic test and take it with on your next visit. This may better help assess the situation for both of you. Make sure you discuss your feelings about you husband as well and the concerns you have. It is quite common emotion to feel this way, yet it does need to be adhered by your doctor. The more information your doctor is given, the more informed everyone is. Hope this helps, Josie

Hi there, My doctor didn't wean me off of Paxil she just said to start taking the Celexa because they are both in the same classification (SSRI). I actually specifically asked her if I should wean off of it and she said "no need". Which I was leary of, but trusted her and did it anyway. I didn't know that Celexa was a milder drug. Wow! My friend is taking Lexapro and she really likes it for her anxiety, I asked my doctor for Lexapro and she said that Celexa was exactly the same drug, except cheaper. Is this true, because if Lexapro works better I would rather be on that. Wow this is kinda overwhelming. If paxil is stronger, that might explain why when I switched, for the first 3 weeks I was severely depressed and anxious, I was in tears constantly----it was awful! Anyway, thanks for listening :). Actually, the only fear I would have is it not working nearly as well or like Paxil. Celexa is a very mild type of antidep. medication as where Paxil is like Zoloft and Lexapro. If you have just depression it will probably continue to help but if you deal with GAD or panic disorder, you might need something more than the Celexa. Did she take you right off the Paxil or did you have to wean off of it?? I do here the withdrawl effects from Paxil can be quite bad. Good luck to you!
