I, too am terrified of being alone in the house, so my heart goes out to you. I find water very soothing and distracting. Maybe a long shower or warm bath will help. It makes me feel safer as I know I'm not likely to race around doing anything foolish when I'm naked and in the tub. Maybe you can break up the day with visits from friends/ neighbours. If your partner has access to a phone, perhaps he'll promise to call and check on you through the day. The anticipation is worse than the reality. Good luck and keep us posted on your success. I'm sure you'll be fine. Long distance supportive hugs from Lauralai

Hi Katie, Do something that you don't usually do but that you like doing. Plan a treat for yourself - go out and get a manicure, massage or go to the gym. Meet with a couple of friends for coffee. Do something that makes you feel good but you don't get a chance to do every day. Or maybe that is the day to plan to make yourself busy and do the stuff that you don't necessarily like doing but needs to get done and takes all day - wash windows, dust everything in sight, shampoo the carpets. Hope this helps. Anxious Ed :)

Flip the coin, try to ignore the anxiety for just a few minutes, and start to do stuff that you can only do when you're alone (for a longer period of time) -- and do them! Dance around naked, sing along to your favourite tune, make faces to the livingroom mirror, turn the volume to max on the stereo! Go crazy, go crazy in a way you couldn't when you aren't alone. Exaggerate your panic until they're funny, nobody's there to see it! Ok, so not this isn't all realistic for everyone, but this is what I do -- now that my girlfriend's abroad for a longer while. :D

Hi Katie, First of all, just try to keep in mind that everything is fine & there is no danger. (I know easier said than done but sometimes it helps) Also maybe you could make a plan for yourself or make a list of things to keep you busy during the day. Then if you start getting anxious refer to your list & get busy doing something to keep your mind occupied. I hope everything goes well! YOU'LL BE FINE!! Chanda

My suggestion(s) would be to get yourself a relaxation tape/CD, Do some deep breathing exercises several times a day, and most important, hang close to the board! There are a lot of "shoulders to lean on" here! Just knowing I have a place to vent has eased my panic during some rough times. HTH!! Good Luck!!

Hi, everyone. My husband starts school tomorrow. I have friends in town until Wed to help me ease into the transition, but on Thursday, I'm on my own! I am absolutely petrified. I don't want to be alone all day long. What am I going to do all day (except panic, of course)? If anyone has any encouraging thoughts out there, I'd love to hear them. katie
