I don't have kids doodles....but know about triggers a bit - I quit during horrifying unplanned circumstances myself..... Just don't smoke. Prepare yourself with mints, jelly bellies, those listerine strips, music you enjoy, deep breaths, what ever it takes...just don't smoke. Smoking will only intensify the craves and will not help at all. Hang on tight, we are all in this with you. Thanks guys.. Good luck to you pokerbrat.. that will be a tough send off..and then you still have to deal with a 15 year old.. Unhooked.. You are right about helping out and they are so excited that I quit smoking.. BUT.. BUT... I am a control freak, what can I say. I want Sat. to be so special and wonderful for my daughter that I would walk on hot coals.. silly, I know!! And yes.. treating myself is very hard.. time & money Today I had some bad craves while running around alone in my car.. I came so close to buying a pack.. then I told myself... that I could have anything in the world that I wanted to eat .. I could not think of anything Just weird!! yea I DID NOT SMOKE I know in my heart that smoking because I am stressed only makes me a stressed out SMOKER!! I wish there was a secret pill I could take to get through these two days.. But I am the designated driver!! The only driver once my oldest leaves home. Thanks again for so much advice.. It's nice to hear from people that actually know what I am talking about. Doodles, I can kind of see where your coming from. I'm a single dad, and next Thursday I'm sending my 18 year old off to Navy bootcamp, I also have a 15 year old at home. I have a thread in another area on this. After an hour of intense thought on the matter, no amount of smoking is going to help me, it will only hurt. If I give in now, next Thursday when I am at the airport spending my last minutes with my son, I will have to keep running outside somewhere to have a smoke, and that will only take away time from being with him before he leaves. Smoking only will make things worse. If stress is a trigger, then figure out how to drain that stress from yourself via deep breathing, hot bath, whatever works. Just hang in there, the junkie in our head will always try and come up with an excuse for us to have just one...Be Strong. Doodles, smoking does not make anything better, not even stress. The junkie that lives in your head wants you to believe it will but really it will just cause more stress. It's good that you're thinking about this trigger ahead of time because you can think of coping strategies and put a plan in place before you feel stressed out. Smoking is not an option because yuou are a non-smoker, so what are your options? Get your kids involved in helping with the things that have to get accomlished, especially the oldest. She's certainly old enough to take some responsibility for getting her ownself ready for college. Even the younget ones can pitdh in with little chores that help you out & keep them occupied. As single mothers, I think we may tend to try to be all things to all people. Can't be. You need some time for you now as well & your family might have to get used to that. You can do it, doodles, you have been doing it, you are doing it. It's a hard thing, so remember to reward yourself, remember to ask for what you need and mostly remember that you don't smoke. DON'T WORRY DOODLES...YOU WILL GET THREW THIS!!! There will always be stressful times but these are NO reasons to start smoking again. Belive me i know....Last week i got very stressful news. I was sitting on the floor and crying my eyes out :). However, i chosed to go threw the emotions instead of going to get a pack of cigs. Today, i'm extremely proud that i did that. I prouved to myself that i'm able to go threw stressful times without a cigarette. Belieme me doodles...YOU ARE ALSO STRONGER THEN YOU THINK. You can do this. Remember that it's only your junkie thoughts that are making you think that you need that nicotine stick to get threw certain situation. You'll get threw it...Think positive and believe in yourself.
