THE MISSING PEICE

Jonathan You are already on the right path, you said "I will make it out of the hole" Just hang in there! I agree with Michael P in that we need to incorporate diet, medication, therapy, etc. in whatever combo it takes to make us feel better. Jonathan, I am a nurse and not much for psychiatry either, however I do think that the meds are a stepping stone that can help us acheive that balance that seems to get altered for whatever reason (stress, hormones, etc.). I too have been off medication and panic free for 17 years! Imagine that, but here I am again approaching THE BIG 40 and on meds and into psychotherapy. Stay positive... you'll get there and we are all here to help you. Lisa

Jonathan...I believe that with panic, if you believe it will work, it will....it is a physical illness but its caused by our thought patterns, emotions, heriditary, etc...its very complex. Medicaction helps many of us to get over the hump and its a life saver. I believe that many are "over medicated" and the trick is to incorporate medicaction with excercise, diet, therapy, prayer, linden or whatever cognitive method there is. You are 26 and hopefully will go into remission....ive been in and out of remission with panic for 20 years and have found that low doses of meds help but not totally alleviate my symptoms(ie.25-.5 mg klonopin per day annd 5-10 mg prozac per day)....this level helps me function and do my job but in relapse mode doesnt block the panic completely etc....only time does that with me ...good luck

I AM CURRENTLY ON LEXAPRO AND COMING OFF OF KLONIOPIN .I WAS PUT ON IT SIX YEARS AGO 3MG DAILY ,THATS 1MG 3 TIMES DAILY. THAT IS EQUAL TO 30-40MG OF VALIUM.I HAVE BEEN ON ALMOST EVERY SSRI THERE IS.CHANDRA I AM 26 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE SPENT WAY TO MUCH OF MY LIFE LISTNING TO PHYCHIATRIST ,AND TAKING THERE MEDICATIONS.IF THIS HELPS YOU GOOD,BUT ALL I CAN GIVE IS MY VANTAGE POINT ON THECONDITION AS I HAVE SEEN IT.I WILL MAKE IT OUT OF THE HOLE I AM IN AND I WILL RETRIEVE THE LIFE I ONCE HAD,AND I WILL DO THIS WITHOUT THE CRUTCH OF MEDICATION.ALL MEDS CAN DO IS MASK THE PROBLEM FOR SO LONG.I WILL BE DOING THE LINDEN METHOD,THIS IS A FORM OF THERAPY BUT IT SEEMS TO CUT THREW THE BS ,IF THIS METHOD DOES WORK I BY ALL MEANS WILL SHARE IT WITH EVERYBODY.CHECH OUT CHARLES LINDEN HIS STORY IS VERY SIMILAR TO MINE IN MANY ASPECTS JONATHAN MYMAN

Jonathan aka TRUTH, It seems like most of your posts are "bashing" (for lack of a better work) medications that help so many of us. So here's my question, what do you suggest? I've asked you that in two different messages now & I don't really get an answer. I've also asked what kind of meds you were on? I'm willing to listen to what you have to say but if you think we shouldn't take meds or use therapy the WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST WE DO?? What do you do & does it work for you????? Chanda

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) published by the American Psychiatric Association, the bible for these types of disorders, lists no physical causes for anxiety in all the 51 detailed pages devoted to anxiety disorders. That's interesting, especially considering that several major pharmaceutical companies have been marketing drugs purporting to "treat" anxiety for over 20 years. If no physical cause for the disorder has been found, how can a drug treat it? If you can't readily come up with a logical answer for that question, you're in very good company: Neither can the pharmaceutical companies. Phrases such as, "It is believed..." and "scientists believe that..." and "it my be that..." fill their text under causes of this disorder, and the cause of anxiety is stated to be exactly the same as the cause of depression -- that is, certain neurotransmitters (chemicals in the nervous system that assist nerve impulses to travel from one nerve to the next) may be deficient in people with this disorder.
