tryagain, First, I say this with the utmost respect - you are one tough broad! I've watched you grit your teeth and tough it through this quit time and time again. Honestly, I don't think I could have made it if it was hard for me as it has been for you. I admire your courage. I quit cold turkey also, so I can't really comment on the NRT stuff but I can speak from my humble opinion. Don't go back to the gum or the patch or anything else. Give yourself a week without nicotine. You have made it this far, you've gotten help at work and have a bit more freedom there - consider this like a true fresh start. Have you been rewarding yourself? It doesn't have to be things you buy but things you do for yourself. You have already made it 176 Days without smoking, you can do another 7 without nicotine and then you are FREE. Start walking tall in your NEW life. Stay close and let us know how it's going. Tryagain, my heart goes out to you. I have been nicotine free for 18 days and it has been up and down. You have so many days on your quit from cigarettes,your lungs must be much clearer but you brain is still getting it's fix from the gum. Your body and brain try any tactic to get you to take just one more puff. That is what addiction is. Accept that you are addicted to nicotine and work to remove the drug from your system. I'm trying to do the same thing. It is not just smoking we want rid of it is the drug. THE ADDICTION. Your pin name ends with Gain. It's very common for people to stay on the gum after a quit for a long, long time. Since i went cold turkey all i can do is say the first three days of nic withdrawal are the worst. it will get better and everyday gets better and better. it's rough, but well worth it. you can do it. Hey Tryagain Have you been using " The Gum " for 176 days or 6 months ??? If you have been it's no wonder your having problems all you've done is switched from cigarettes to " The Gum "I read a story some where about a man who was on nicotine gum for 10 years refused to give it up because the idea of giving it up gave him an anxiety attache.He was afraid to give up his nicotine.I know this is of little consolation when your suffering but you realy should seek some professional help. Tryagain, You can also consult with your pharmacist. If you were using a significant amount of gum prior to going nicotine free this may explain why you are craving. I'm outta the gum. Decided not to get any more. I'm trying to get completely nic free. Right now I want a cig so bad that I'm ready to hang myself just to end the craving. I just THOUGHT the cravings were bad before. It was a cosmic joke. I THOUGHT since I resisted for six months I could continue tolerating that background noise. Nothing could have prepared me for this. I got up, had some reg gum, had some hard candy. Went to bed. Wished I could stay in bed for the rest of my life. Got up, started looking around for a rope and a ceiling support. Isn't there some tolerance built up for cravings? Do they continually get worse instead of better? This is worse than week one! At least after week one, I had some days of relief! I had some good days there. There were hours at a time when I never even thought of cigs. After the first six weeks, it has been downhill ALL THE WAY. I can give this some time. I don't know how long I can give it. Even the world's strongest person has limits. Even though it feels ike those limits were reached days ago, there is enough for a big push. No nic at all. How long can I hold out?
