I thought I would give a follow up to this post. I had a very difficult weekend. Problems with my husband, kids, money...usual stress but I really just did not think I could make it at times. Friday night my husband and I got in a big fight and he ended up leaving (temporarily) all I could think about was smoking. Instead I went to sleep. I read the post saturday about making a pledge to come here first before lighting up and could not respond because I really could not say that I would not smoke again. I will spare the details but the rollercoaster continued all weekend. For a few hours I would feel great and more determined then ever and at other times I was counting how much cash was in my wallet to see if I had enough to buy a pack! Ugh!! I have to clarify that my husband is a great person but we have a very difficult relationship. However when he left Friday I thought about comments people here have made about not losing a quit over a guy or a relationship. When things got really hard saturday and sunday I thought about Mercy's post and decided I was not going to give up because if i do I will never know if it was the next day that would bring relief. I know that my quit is not just about will power, because often I do not have it. Or commitment because often I do not have that either. When things get really difficult even concerns about my health seem like "not that big of a deal". But when I add all those things together and the strength I get from reading about peoples experiences here, I have managed to make it 25 days. So I just want to say thank you for keeping me going. I also want to say things are much better today and I made it through all that and did not smoke!!! Yea!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 500 Amount Saved: $137.50 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 1 Mins: 54 Seconds: 10

You are right on coarse - Sometime it's exhilarting to realize that we are finally quitting this addiction and the next minute we are ready to kill someone. I could go from laughing to crying within minutes. The good news is that, althougth there are some bumps along the way, the ride gets much smoother. All the best! Jeni, yes... it is totally normal. Your brain is healing right along with your body. It will cotinue for awhile...but slowly get less and less and less till all of sudden you realize..."Hey..I'm feeling pretty good!" Hang in there. To get to that point....you cannot smoke...ever. You are doing so good. LOOK at you..into three weeks. jeni You are in the worst of it at this time...The reason that you don't feel normal is that we have all been abnormal for so long. As time goes by it will occur to you that now it is normal not to smoke and that you are dealing with life in a more effective manner. This will be opposed to the time in your life when you needed to take 5 minutes out of every hour to suck down 4,000 chemicals and infuse your lungs with a a coating of tar. I understand how this thing knaws at you now, but remember to use your mechanisms for distraction, deep breating and water, water and more water. You can get through this, just keep believing in yourself and there will come a time when you will not crave so. In time it will become a distant thought that will come upon you rarely. Over time you really do develop a different relationship with cigarettes...I know that may not help you in the moment, but perhaps hanging onto that idea will give you hope to overcome your current struggle... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 208 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,240 Amount Saved: $1,456.00 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 1 Mins: 10 Seconds: 33

Don't worry Jen, the reason you don't feel mormal is because you are not. You are purging your body of all those awful drugs that you put into it for all those years! Like I said though don't worry, within a month you will start to feel better than you ever have, and you will wonder why you didn't quit so much sooner! Believe in yourself! You can do this, you are doing it and you will suceed at it! We are ridding ourselves of an awful addiction, and what waiting on the other side is freedom and a whole new life! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 138 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,450 Amount Saved: $1,455.90 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 20 Mins: 6 Seconds: 24

Hi jeniwho, I remember on my 9th day quit I went to see my doctor for something not related to smoking. It came up that I was on Day 9 and I started crying like a baby - and had no idea why! He was great and actually did this gesture with his hands as he explained how the cilia in my lungs were coming back to life that I'll never forget. All that to say, your emotions are on overdrive. It is like a rollercoaster and as long as you can throw your hands up and enjoy the ride, it will eventually even out. Great job on those three weeks! Is this up and down feeling normal? My quess is yes, just want some reinforcement. Some days I feel great, hardly miss smoking at all, and then the next day I am just tired of fighting and I am convinced that I can not make it one minute more. These thoughts and feelings can even change hour to hour. I am having a hard time dealing with it because I feel so..well..not normal.
