Thoughts verses Craves

yes..I see what you mean aloha, Sometimes it is a thought....and other times it is that feeling in my chest. That is the one that bothers me the most. Sort of like a tight knawing feeling. Hope that goes away soon. I agree, Mercy. Thoughts come from the asociation with smoking of the particular event/situation. Easily noted and dismissed...even laughed at. I differentiate urges (I do not believe I crave anymore in terms of physically crying out for the nicotine) from thoughts, by whether there is a physical feeling (ok, gnawing) that accompanies the thought. Little tougher to move on from. I usually need to consciously use some type of coping strategy...breathing deeply, getting active, and if all else fails...a creamsicle ;p Anybody else go through this thought process of differentiating? -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 115 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,600 Amount Saved: $782.00 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 3 Mins: 7 Seconds: 27

Nice post. This is an age old debate. The thoughts or craves really stink. You say TomaTO I say ToMAto. In time they both go away and the act of living life without smoking takes over. There is a thought that is worth holding on to. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 744 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 14,880 Amount Saved: $2,604.00 Life Gained: Days: 67 Hrs: 5 Mins: 29 Seconds: 31

Perfect sense! No sense in dwelling on the crave. Just acknowledge it and move on! Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi everyone, I got to thinking.....now hear me out.....(goats can think) I think it would be helpful to differenciate between craving a cigarette and thoughts of a cigarette. I know what I experience now is quite different than when I first quit. As it has been awhile since I first quit I may be identifying thinking of a ciagarette as craving a cigarette. If I look at it this way it helps: Think of the things in life that produce a thought! A warm summers day makes me think of a tall glass of lemonade. The amusement park makes me think of cotton candy and a Baseball game makes me think of hotdogs and roasted peanuts. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO obviously there is events...sensations and thoughts in life that will make you associate them with cigarettes. How could they not? We smoked for most every occasion. So lets just let them be what they are. THOUGHTS! I don't get strung out about lemonade, cotton candy, hotdogs or roasted peanuts. Why would I get strung out about some grass rolled in paper. So what....something produced a thought. Don't I think all day long? Hope I'm making sense. Thinking of you all, Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 175 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,500 Amount Saved: $782.25 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 0 Mins: 41 Seconds: 34
