Having a rough morning

Cheeks It does get easier; buy yourself time using distractions, naps are a great distraction. One of my tricks early on when I wanted a smoke, I would tell myself no Im not going to have that cigarette now however the next time I have a crave I will consider it. It a fools trick but it works; called quitting by the moment and only for the moment. Fooling nicodemon buys you time and you build strength as you buy yourself time. Just say no not right now, come talk to me about this latter.. The crave should go away for awhile. Its your body healing and after all that poison we've put in ourselves daily, it takes some time to detox! Hang in there, keep posting we are here to help! Smoking is not an option, NOPE! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 129 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,225 Amount Saved: $1,360.95 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 19 Mins: 9 Seconds: 15
Now that nicotine is no longer stimulating the dopamine levels in your brain, your neuro-transmitters are frantically trying to restablish different pathways.
Blue Cloud, that's interesting! I'm gonna investigate that a little more fully, with emphasis on establishing different pathways. Cheeks & Blue Cloud, I know we are all ifferent but Heck week is about the time I went on an all out crying fest. I cried for long periods of time, just sobbing! I didn't crave so bad heck week, but emotionally I was a mess. This is all to be expected and it is a positive sign of healing. Hang in there it will get better! I am sending positive vibes your way. Blue Cloud, take deep breaths, drink lots of water or have some of your favourite tea. Do you keep a list of distractions close by ? If not you should... write them down and start distracting yourself to keep your mind busy. Make sure you take some 'me' time and put your feet up, watch a movie, or lay down to rest or maybe even nap... Think about all the positives in your life and how great you are doing as a non smoker ! You look better, smell better, your taste buds have come alive :) You're a winner hon .. So proud of you :) xo My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 120 Amount Saved: $43.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 26 Seconds: 20

blue cloud, I'm still getting my nicotine through the patch, but I take it off at night and haven't put my new one on yet today...so you could be on to something there. I actually think the 1st week (HELL week) was not as difficult as HECK week is thus far. Or maybe I just think that because it is behind me. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 120 Amount Saved: $27.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 18 Mins: 3 Seconds: 31

Thank you Casey and everyone else. I know that I used to smoke in response to anger or frustration. I think lack of sleep due to waking up in the middle of the night and realizing how much of the household chore load I carry set me off this morning. It's early yet, but I think I'm gonna take a nap. Good Morning Cheeks, Blue Cloud here. I think since we are on the same number of days quit we may be close to feeling the same cravings. I was expecting to start HECK week with a smile and found it was as hard as starting HELL week. Now that nicotine is no longer stimulating the dopamine levels in your brain, your neuro-transmitters are frantically trying to restablish different pathways. Crying increases the body's production of serotonin, another neuro-transmitter. Serotonin is also one of the body's natural "feel good" drugs like dopamine. I'm no neuro-pyschiatrist, but it seems to me that the crying bouts could very well be your body's way of trying to establish new pathways for your neuro-transmitters and coping with the loss of the excess dopamine. In any case, crying IS cathartic and a good way to release a lot of anxiety and tension. Cry about it. be grippy, but don't smoke.
