Mace, I can't remember much about those first days. I guess I killed those memories and am happy for that. I do know, it is a gradual process like Mercy has said. You get better and better and you should rely on distraction, interests, such as napping, showers, exercise in moderator, for what suits your health status. Asks your son to be a touch more supportive and let him know that this is your time to finally make it right and that you plan to stick to it. Listen to the hearts of these wise and wonderful people that support your quit. A fruit snack, bed and lite music sound good tonight. Mace, It takes time.....I'm not gonna kid ya. Everyone slowly forgets at different paces. The more you put into not dwelling on smoking and distracting yourself the better off you will be. Your attitude will be EVERYTHING in your quit. The more happy and positive you are, the better. Think this way: "I don't have to quit....I GET to quit." Your doing a great job. Right now you are counting days... pretty soon you will count weeks... then months... and finally you'll make a year. Make a CONSCIENCE effort each and everyday to yourself and say "For today.....I chose NOT to smoke." One day at a time. I have been some better today. If I get a craving really bad I am trying to get on my excerise bike for awhile. I figure maybe I will ride out the craving and maybe even lose a pound. I am also finding that if it is really getting to me I go take a short nap. I did really good today when my 29 years old son told me he thought maybe I should just go back to smoking if trying to stop was going to make me so nervous and up tight. In the past that would have been all it took for me to go right out and buy a pack. I am not going to give in this time for such a silly reason as that anyway. The support on here is wonderful. Thank you all so much. The strangest is exercising then lighting up when you get to the car. Or as Unhooked has mentioned taking a walk in the evening with a lit cigarette. What is all that about? Smoking directly before a doctors or dentist appointment then chewing gum & squirting perfume to try to cover the smell. How crazy we were! Mace keep up the good work and keep reading from the site it really helps! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Mace, You got some great responses from your fellow members. Just as it has been said you are still very early in your quit. Yes, smoking is very engrained in your life and this will not undo itself overnight. It will undo itself as you continue to put more space between yourself and your last cigarette and keep practicing the new habits that will take the place of the old. Keep employing your coping strategies to help you push through the craves. Distractions and changing the routines you associate with smoking may also help. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist
