Your Cravings Last How Long?

Members, It's not uncommon to begin a productive cough after quitting. It is your lungs way of healing and clearing themselves of all the tar smoking introduced. If symptoms persist, worsen or are accompanied by other symptoms, consult your doctor. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Thanks for the thread, Straightflop. And I heard that! If I was still smoking along with these allergies my health and quality of life would be bad. It's better because we don't smoke. Thanks Tom that was great. I also just moved to a new area and was hit with allergies for the first time this spring. Sadly it involved asthma as well. I am hopping it's just seasonal since i moved here in the winter and was fine until around may. Either way at least I know by not smoking I am doing something better My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 825 Amount Saved: $165.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 4 Mins: 14 Seconds: 12

Great discussion all. Before I quit I was coughing violently at times; lungs coming up left and right. I've since found that part of it was allergies, I just moved here from another State and I'm still adjusting. I'm between two major cities so pollution is a little higher than I'm used to and I'm sure there's some plant pollens here that I haven't been exposed to before that are now making their presence known. I have family in northern Florida and was stationed in southern Georgia for 5 years while I was in the service. I had my worst allergies while I lived there. I hardly cough at all now and my breathing is much better. My craves are mild and far between for months now. I quit cold turkey and get notions to smoke and I can't really call them craves, in my mind that would be exaggerating. I haven't had a respectable crave since the ~30 day point. At first they were mind numbing for about a minute and a half, I couldn't think of anything else. Day by day they were less severe until they came about through hidden triggers alone. Just the other day I had just finished a task at home the the notion occurred to me to have a smoke. I was more annoyed by it than anything else. I remember thinking, "give me a break." This is already too long so I'll end it here. Let's stay with it and get it done (for good this time). Me too, John. But coughing can be related to pther factors: here in north Florida we have a huge amount of pollen. And I find that when I'm in town, where there are more cars and fewer trees, I cough more. But I don't wake up in the night with those little hacking coughs any more, I don't wheeze, and I don't cough when I laugh. That is a wonderful thing! maybe it is just that before I used to cough so often I didn't notice it. Now when it happens I am like, what's wrong??? I coughed for the first 17 days stright,, but then after that no more, our bodies do all sorts of stuff during the quit, and some of it can be very annoying but can be worked through, it takes time, i stayed on my LAST NERVE for a while, it will get better :). I love the little bit pregnant thing LOL Tresa My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/8/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1802 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 36,040 Amount Saved: $6,307.00 Life Gained: Days: 254 Hrs: 0 Mins: 39 Seconds: 34
