Cold Turkey vs NRT

for 17 år siden 0 112 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I don't think it is as black and white as that. Quit or not quit. of course you have quit smoking and that is what matters. However, you are still going to have to deal with addiction once you get rid of the Psychological affects. The point is you are quitting. I went cold turkey and I will say I think it's the best route only because I feel you take on both at the same time and viola! You are done. My reason for this was the low success rate of NRT users. You may find it hard to believe that all these forms: patch, gum, medications all have less than a 20% success rate with sum being as low as 8%. Also many quitters continue to use NRT years after quitting. This means really they have done nothing for themselves. They may live longer but they will always battle addiction and probably be miserable the rest of their lives. Now still even one person that quits with help of these products makes it worth it. I just can see where the CT quitter is coming from. Thats all. Remember this is all opinion and I am not doubting anybody's quit. nor do I think you are not quit for using the patch. My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 475 Amount Saved: $95.00 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 11 Mins: 4 Seconds: 55

Unhooked I have to agree with all the responses ! You are one awesome person and if I were you I would take the frustration and turn it around into something positive and use that good energy on something far more deserving YOU ! You should feel so proud of yourself at 49 days.. and counting ! I'm using the patch as well and I KNOW I'VE QUIT ! Keep on doing what you're doing - ONE AWESOME WOMAN ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/23/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 160 Amount Saved: $58.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 23 Mins: 22 Seconds: 3

You guys are awesome & of course you're right. It is my quit & I will do it my way. It shows though, how fragile we can still be even when we've been strong for what seems a long time. Once again, my amazing quit buddies have come through. Thank you! Yeah unhooked you are awesome and have done amazingly - don't listen to him - I can't understand how a reformed smoker could be so unsupportive of another quitter. If the patch is working for you, then that's the way you should be quitting - don't matter what he says - he's not right. Just keep up the good work - 49 amazing days - wow and when you're ready to go nic free, then that's the time to do it - just follow the program you started 49 days ago - proud of ya!! Unhooked, Don't let your friend' comment get you down because really what kind of comment is that to make? I can tell from having seen hundreds, probably thousands that come through the SSC that no one method is better than the other. The method that works best is the one best suited for that said unique individual. Period. If we take you for example, had you had this conversation prior to your quit and gone cold turkey under his advice, the attempt would have likely failed or you would have a had a heck of a time. Everyone is different and everyone knows their own limits and their needs. Hold your head high, you have 49 days on your meter and you've earned each one! Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Unhooked, there are jerks in the world who take delight in letting everyone know how "smart" they are. In this case, there is no way this guy could know the right way to quit unless he has experienced every single successful smoker's quit. Let it go. The best way to quit is the way that works for YOU. That is all his opinion...what counts is what YOU think. Hang in there unhooked. This is your quit, not this other guy's. You have every right and many many reasons to be proud of yourself. We all know how difficult quitting is and you have done it for 49 days. Pat yourself on the back. I definately know what you mean, that sometimes, little comments can really get us down in our quit.....Hang in there and do give this guy hell. What he said has even upset me, because as quitters we should realize that people quit diff ways, and no one way is better or "more real" than the other......... Hang in there!!!!!!!! btw...where in Canada do you live? lol...... Thanks Seamus & JDK. First of all, you are both members of this community & sharing the stuggle so you are as qualified as anyone else to express your opinion. I agree with your views although I'm biased because I'm using the patch. It was actually kind of discouraging & did give me a little doubt because, except for one old smoking buddy, everybody in my life has been really supportive of this quit & nobody has suggested it's less of one because of the NRT. It made me think this guy might be right & I'm all proud of nothing because once I don't have that crutch, maybe I won't be able to stay quit. I'm kind of mad at him now because I have so been looking forward to going nekkid & have had to exercise a lot of patience to stay with the patch program & give myself the best chance. It feels like he's taken something away from me & I'm going to give him hell next time I see him.
