You're doing great! You're probably used to smoking while you're studying or while taking a break while writing papers. Just keep using that self talk...argue with yourself. I went on a trip about a month ago and was a bit worried, so I printed out a post from here that listed a bunch of helpful things to tell myself and review if I was really tempted. I used it twice...and had a great time. Hope you do too! We'll be looking to hearing from you when you get back

Having another difficult day, but things are getting stressful for me. It's like my body is fighting with my head. My head doesn't want to smoke, but the rest of me does. It was actually easier LAST week than it is now :-)
Paper and midterm tomorrow, along with a presentation, and then travel by car for a good 13 hours. I'm a little concerned about that trip, but only about the cravings. I don't want to smoke, and I won't. That doesn't mean it'll be comfy *rolls her eyes*.
Anyway, wish me luck. I'll be out of town for a week, so I'll catch y'all when I get back! Thanks for all the support!!!!!!

Good one there, just keep walking away from the urge. This whole process is 33% faith, 33% desire and 33% discipline. I am a great believer in the idea of thought being the father of word which is the progenitor to action. To me, this is the trilogy of creation.
The reason this is so painful now is that you are in the process of becoming (as we all are). You are walking away from who you where and becoming that which you will yourself to become. The pull to return to the safety of what was is strong, and the internal strength and faith of ones own true self can only counter balance that.
Often when I find myself in unfamiliar territory, I stop and ask myself why I am in this place. If I can come up with an adequate reason then I have no problem enduring the pain of the unfamiliar. In this senario, I see lots and lots of reasons for you and I to endure the discomfort of this particular birthing process.

Congratulations Nibley,
You are remarkable! If you can make it through a week, you can quit and you now you have the proof. Your distraction techniques are superb as you know when to get up and leave the crave situation behind you. That is how it is done Nibley. Good job and 500 days will be yours as you stick to it. Wish you well and success with your classes.

You go Nibley!
One week is a great start to the rest of your smoke free life. You overcame the needed "study" cig, (so our addiction tried to tell us). That is a great victory. Hope that you enjoyed your walk. Did you breathe deeply? (like we couldn't when we smoked). On the rare occassion that I went for a walk when i smoked, you bet ya that I had a cig in my hand as I strolled around the block. Smoking promotes a very sedentary lifestyle; sit and smoke, watch tv and smoke, read and smoke, talk to friends and smoke, talk on the phone and smoke, blah, blah, blah. Here's to freedom, Nibley!

Week one is finished for me, but I have been sitting on my porch working on a paper for a class, and had the worst time convincing myself that I don't smoke. That lasted a good hour or so. Thank goodness it's [mostly] over, so I'm heading out for a walk.
I won this round. ;p
