thanks for the great response, you guys are terrific! And fortunately the cravings have subsided significantly. (I keep ignoring them like the oil change for my car) Cravings or not there is NO WAY I WILL EVER SMOKE AGAIN!! newme That is one of my favorite threads. Has helped me frequently when I experience repeated cravings to a particular situation. I keep having them, John, to a few situations, but not reading. I would suggest having something else in your fingers to replace the cigarette when you read, because I think the act of smoking while reading is somewhat the physical movement of smoking that is familiar. Keep up the great quits, folks -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 76 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,040 Amount Saved: $516.80 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 16 Mins: 56 Seconds: 8

John, As they say, old habits die hard. Try breaking up your reading sessions into 20 minute chunks or whatever feels comfortable, doing something fun, getting a quick reward in between. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

John, I found the thread. It is in the "avoiding relapse and slipping forum" The title is "this is why you think about cigs". YOu should read it. it will help explain why you are having such strong cravings when you study. Hang tough. You will study whether you smoke or not, so don't smoke! new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 30 Seconds: 6

Hi John, You are quit for over a month! That is wonderful. there are many good threads about triggers that would help you out. I just read one that said we have over 70,000 associations with cigs while doing certain things in our lives over the period of a year. (that is if you smoke one pack a day). You attitude will certainly keep you smoke free. But cravings for you now are mental. Those can last for a long time. Be patient with yourself. After you study for an extended period of time without smoking, that trigger should go away from your brain. Congratulations on one month smoke free! new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 29 Seconds: 40

Well, it has been a month now so most cravings are pretty minor except the one I get when I start studying. This one nags me pretty good and although they only last for a minute or so they seem to pop up quite frequently abt every 15-20 mins. Yes, I used to smoke while reading Cisco books studying for a new certification. So now repeadedly when I pick up the book and start reading a major cravings strike. Eating Pistachios, cherries, lifesavers and a deep breath helps tremendously. I do move on, there is no chance that I would ever even consider smoking again but I thought that this craving trigger would subside by now. Anyone else get cravings when studying or reading? What do you do for it?
