Hey Mercy, I read that the weight gains level off for most at about six months...so I am counting and hoping I am the exception that levels off at three. LOL. Lainey, If you see this....can I ask....did you read it levels off at 6 months. I keep playing around with 5 pounds. I gain a couple..lose a couple. Do people gain after 6 months outta no where. I'm not obese...but like many at 53 I have extra baggage in the mid section. I always wanted to loose a good 15 pounds.....and I FEAR/FEARED gaining weight quiting smoking. I have gained in the past attempts...but this time didn't do as bad. I'm not sure why. I cant be anymore ready, for the last 5 years I have managed to loose 35lb keep it off and there is no way I am gaining it all back now !!I didnt work my ass of then to 5 years down the line put it all back on ! Its so frustrating because it is such a positive we are all doing ( giving up cigs ) and then this negative thing usually comes along with it! Hi Linda, I put on 20 pounds (which I really couldn't afford to do being overweight already) but I decided to suck it up for a few months until I felt I could safely start a way of eating that wouldn't make me feel like I needed either a treat or a smoke. I quit last August, around Christmastime I knew I was ready to make that change in my eating habits but waited until January 2 just so I wouldn't feel deprived of any holiday "treats". Quitting smoking was just the start to getting healthy for me. Since Jan 2 i've now lost 49 pounds as well. Still lots more to go. When you're ready you'll know it and you won't need those extra 200 calories a day is what I'm trying to say with my long winded message here! Thanks Guys, I think I would go crazy without this site... I know it has to come off and I know that I cant do anymore, so I will just have to wait. I am so happy to not be smoking and smoking again is definatley not an option. That is the bottom line. Hi Lindak - I hit my all time low (in the weight dept) around the 90 day mark....I was exercising almost every day and still putting on weight. I weighed more than I ever did. I actually remember lying in bed thinking that there was nothing fun left to enjoy and life and contemplating liposuction. I think everybody is different....but changing the type and intensity of exercise plus changing eating habits helped to kick start my metabolism. Now that I am exercising harder and eating better, I have lost the weight that I gained plus another 10. I think that I might be better prepared to manage my weight now that I am getting more fit. I think that, in time, you will be able to go out and cheat every once in awhile (although I seem to pay for those long cheats too) Wishing you all the best and congratulating you on 140 + days non-smoking! Hey Lindak, I have had people tell me the weight thing levels off at about 6 months, and you're almost there! So hang in there. My philosophy is, if it takes longer, so be it, I'd rather be a bit chubby for the few months than be smoking again. It has to come off sooner or later anyway! So Hang in there!
