Everybody is looking so good! :) To answer your question, Mike, I took Chantix for 3 months and my Dr. would have given me another 3 months, but I thought I would be okay. The first few days after I stopped taking it, I felt a bit edgy, but nothing significant. And I think my edginess was because I was expecting some huge craving or horrible withdrawel that never appeared. That is not to say that I don't think about smoking anymore, but it is more like a fleeting thought or a memory and is less and less over time. Good luck to you all! Keep up the terrific quits! I also quit with Chantix and just finished up with Chantix this monday. I agree completely with the self-talk portion. Chantix really allowed me to broaden my comfort zones in a million places where before I never thought I could "do it" without smoking. I feel like a million dollars and, of every quit I've ever tried, this is the first time I've felt like a real live non-smoker! :) Before I always felt like someone who was avoiding smoking, this time I've lived my life just like I always would, have done the things I've always done, been through some pretty ****ty (unplanned) stressful situations and have done them all without cigarettes! Of, for that matter, even any real thoughts of *wishing* I had a cigarette. I'm on day four of no chantix (my last pill of the 12 week program was monday) and while I feel a slight bit irritable and *****y (and have in fact been acting irritable and *****y), it's pretty mild and it's also PMS week and I'm also stressed trying to get us ready for camping packing truck myself and all that (husband at work) while 7 year old is getting in the way and... eh, can't blame Chantix for *everything* and I'm going to have to admit I'd probably be irritable and *****y right now even if I had never heard of Chantix and was still smoking away. :) But, no horrible withdrawals from stopping the drug and, more importantly, no increased urge to smoke! I can only hope it continues. For all of us! I believe it will and I'm so very happy about it! I'm also a chantix user and have been smoke free now for 5 days! That's after a smoking habit of 30 yrs so this is a big deal for me! I quit after 6 day's on the chantix. Cig's just were tasty stale and nasty to me so i put my last one out on Sunday april 22, 2007 and i haven't had one since! Congratulations to all who have quit, regardless of your method of coping. Chantix here, too. Compared to my other quit attempts...this has been much easier. I credit the Chantix. I have been following other Chantix quitters and their responses when no longer taking it. Can't get a clear picture, as everyone is different. :) Some say that even when stopping the meds suddenly, they had no ill effects (I hope this will be me) :) Some have said they felt "edgy" for a couple of days after stopping the Chantix :) Some have said they went back on the meds after having completed the 3 month program (or longer) :) Some have weaned themselves from the Chantix during the last few weeks or so (this is what I am doing) You know you won't smoke ever again, so stopping the Chantix is something you have to decide along with your doctor. At the beginning I thought I would have to be on Chantix for at LEAST 6 months, but I think 3 months (especially with the weaning process taking it past 3 months) will be more than enough. Do what's right for you. See how your quit goes compared to other Chantix users...look for similarities and differences...it may help you to decide. It did for me. Good luck, and stay strong. The Chantix will help you! Congradulations on 3 weeks. That is something to smile about. The Chantix is good stuff. I really like it. LadyJ, Congratulations on three weeks and on getting through those tough times. Remember, the weight gain is temporary and you can tackle it later in your quit. Self-talk is a great way to start retraining your brain so keep it up! Danielle ____________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi LadyJ, I am also using Chantix and tomorrow will be 30 days smoke free for me so I swear by it. I have never been able to quit before. The waist of my pants is starting to tell me to keep my mouth closed when I pass by food but I am taking one challange at a time right now. Good luck to you I know you will succeed ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 585 Amount Saved: $188.5 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 1 Mins: 40 Seconds: 13

This thread hits on the point of view I think is helping me the most quitting with Chantix! I too view this quit as a process of deprogramming my brain from the smoking habit. And those thoughts of smoking? Has nothing to do with me, my needs or desire. It's just old involuntary thoughts popping up out of habit that will eventually diminish to rare occasions. I'm VERY big on the self-talk too. Keep reminding that brain that we just don't smoke anymore. Not gonna do it. Wouldn't be prudent. Not at this juncture! (Whoops! Channeling Dana Carvey channeling Bush the first there for a second). Lady J, congratulations. And you are doing great? That is so wonderful. Thanks for starting this thread. Important stuff right here! LouPLou, already into your 2nd day. Way to go! Well on your way to a successful life as a non-smoker. I just love getting familiar with everyone here on the board. So many great success stories! Keeps me very, very, positive about this whole healing process. Thanks All, Mike My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 160 Amount Saved: $28 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 33 Seconds: 36

Ooh, Freemom! I LOVE what you wrote -- by God, I think she's GOT it now! You're 100% right -- keep learning about the addiction, keep telling yourself you're a nonsmoker, then you will indeed "deprogram" your brain to really believe it! You are rocking! LadyJ: I'm also a Chantix quitter and found it extremely helpful, but as Bartman said, the key element here is that you truly want to be a nonsmoker. Without that, nothing will help. I think you're there, though. You're doing very, very well! Lou P Lou: Keep talking to yourself, even if others think you're a little nutso! I'm a big believer in self-talk of the positive kind. Self-talk of the negative kind has ruined many, many quits. Your brain WILL catch on, you'll see! Keep the faith, all!
