I know it seems like this will obsess you for the rest of your life. That's the crappy addicted part of your brain saying...aha, you will never be rid of me, you might as well smoke if all you're going to do is think about it! It does get better. I'm now at the point where it is surprising to think about cigarettes more than once or twice a day, very briefly. Hang on and hold on, there really is a life beyond smoking. (And if your everyday job/life doesn't distract you, do something that does -- rent a movie, read a book, even a crossword of Sudoku will ease the mental pressure.) Leifang - You're in good company - most (if not all) of us have been there! That phase where you obsess about smoking & experience terrible cravings. Let me assure you, it really & truly gets soooo much better. On a post called "Can't Stop Thinking..." I wrote: [i]I've made it through my first weekend smoke-free - not an easy task! I'm taking Chantix, using my quit program tools, and doing everything I can think of to make it through one day at a time. But, I'm still thinking (obsessing) about smoking every single minute. When will this stop? [/i] Now I can answer myself - it will stop soon. "Soon" is different for all of us - for some it's days and others it's weeks, but the important thing is - this is a temporary thing! So, hang in there. We're here with you & for you. Hey Leifang, remember what we told our kids, "Just say No!" we can take that a step further here... "Just say NOPE!" Don't give the craving a chance. A friend of mine used to always say "Give your head a a Shake!" leifang, Thanks for sharing and congrats on day 8! This is all normal and will pass! You have completed "hell week" and this is commendable :) Continue to prepare yourself with coping mechanisms and get active! This addiction has done a number on your body and it needs time to heal. Use relaxation techniques to rest you and your body everyday and take a moment for yourself and regroup. Explain to your family the changes and the addiction. Good work on getting to 9 days. Keep on telling yourself how good it will feel when you get to 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, etc... What has been working for me when those devilish thoughts pop up is to tell myself, sure I "could" get a cig and smoke, but I CHOOSE not to. Also, I tell myself that it's all psychological and no way do I need or want that cig, really. Hope that helps and you have an easy day! He Leifang, Congratulations on your first week. When I stopped 3 weeks ago I think I went through Heck week first and Hell week second. I haven't quite figured it out yet. Just keep working throught your cravings with whatever works best for you. I find the deep breaths do work but also I just take a walk outside even it is just around the backyard. Hi Leifang Glad to see you...and to see you made it through a week. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I had the same happen to me on day 8. I was looking for the thread talking about it, but can't find it. Anyways....I bumped up a thread that might help....oh sheesh..cant remember the name of it..lol..I'm old. what can I say? Just remember, only deal with one craving at a time...and keep using your strategies....distract yourself, tell yourself it is better to smoke than not, and that you ARE a non-smoker, and replace a smoke with something else. I think every day is different. I know I haven't had another day that intense since. But also know I might have another one. The good thing is, I think, is that once you get through a rough one, you know you can do it, and your mind and body are familiar with it, so it gets easier over time. At least that's what it seems, reading posts from people who have long quits going. At any rate...Congratulations again for your week!!!!!
