Hi Pamela and CQ! I agree with Pam yet again! This disorder is something we have learned, a way to cope with stress, and it is a very wrong way! LOL! I, too, am learning to cope in new and different ways, I have realized that I'm not going to get rid of stress, it's a normal part of life. What I CAN do is change the way I react to it! Tell the dr all you can, what you might leave out maybe the most important thing, you never know! There is a way out of this, it takes hard work and patience, but it can be done. Good luck to you, going to the dr is a great step!

CQ, the doctor needs to know everything!! Don't hold back at all. I made that mistake at first because I'm a private person and didn't want the doctor to think I was crazy and committ me to a mental ward. But a doctor that is familiar with anxiety disorders will know that all of the fear and crazy thoughts are related to the anxiety and will be able to help you to understand why your feeling the way that you are and what you need to do to get well.

I am not taking anything to as being meant "wrong". I am trying to learn. I think part of my problem may be being so unlearned I do not even know the questions. thank you for taking the time to share your experience. As a general question to anyone - I'd be interested in what the doctor needs to know. I am a very private person and generally do not share easily. I don't think I did very well in the past, I'd like to be more successful this time.

CQ, I know how you feel, I really do and I hope you didn't take my response the wrong way. I hate the fear and feeling like you can't control it and it totally bites when people say there's nothing wrong with you, you just have PA. Just PA that's like saying to a woman who just gave birth , it's ok you just had sextuplets no problem. Sometimes it's hard to get your point across on here without people taking it the wrong way. I just wanted to let you know what I've learned and that it is possible to get past it and begin to feel like yourself again. I'm happy you've made an appointment with another doctor and don't let them tell you it's just panic get over it. Keep us posted on how things are going.

I can accept that there is nothing wrong with me medically or whatever. I just have panic attacks. I had one. Then a few months later I had another. Then every time I launched a major project into the universe I had one. Then I didn't sleep for 3 days after a launch. This is a 15 year trend and the slope is not positive. A doctor said, "there is nothing wrong with you its just a PA." A counselor said "you are not crazy you just have PAs - Don't worry." Maybe he ought to take up regae. Rhetorically, I am asking "Have you had one of these things?" Do you want another one? You can have mine, I don't want it. You wouldn't be here if you did not know what they are like. I wouldn't give one of these things to my worst enemy, yes I would. But I would not wish one on anybody else. I fell down a cliff once. 23 hours later when I walked into an emergency room the doc did not say, "Don't worry, its only a broken leg. You're walking. It'll stop hurting in about 3 months." I've heard about people going to doctors, psychologists, counselors, or whatever and getting help of some kind. After about 5 years of wishing there was something wrong that they would try to fix, I have made another appointment. I am worried all I will hear is "There is nothing..." Hence the question about an underlying condition. Do you have an condition I could borrow? I only need it for a couple of hours. I am just kidding. I have all the problems I need, and I do not mean to make light of anyone else. I just wish I had a broken leg, because I can get that fixed.

CQ, If it could just be stopped then none of us would be here. It has taken you a lfetime to get yourself to the point your at right now, so things won't change over night, but it is possible to change your way of thinking and stop the negativity. Ultimately it is up to you, even though it's hard to accept you are doing this to yourself. There are no underlying medical conditions causing you to feel this way. It is your way of responding to stress in your life. For some reason some people can take stress and allow it to roll off their backs, but those of us who suffer from these disorders internalize these stressors and respond in a negative way to them. You have been trained probably since childhood to respond in this way. Now it's up to you to undo the training by learning all that you can about this disorder and what you need to do to beat it. I'm working on learning to do that now myself, I'm peeling back the layers of fear to find out what the real fears are. I'm not really afraid of going crazy or losing control those are just covers for my low self esteem and feeling of being in adequate. Just keep doing the positive things your working on during the day sooner or later being positive will be something you don't have to work on, it will begin to come naturally for you and your nights will be more peaceful. God bless!

Life has good points. One family member's cancer has gone into remission and another 91 year old family member is recovering from emergency surgery. (Recovering is the key.) 2003/2004 seems to be shaping up as a period where no has died, though there have been a number of opportunities, and we have been joined by two little girls and a very active little boy (Grand kids). All in all not a bad score card even if there have been stressful times. Then last night the PA bomb didn't explode until 4:30, which gave me 4 1/2 hours of sleep. That's good, it is surprising how good you can feel on 4.5 when you are used to 1 or 2. I do have one question though. Considering how much fun panic attacks are, why does there have to be an underlying condition before anybody will do anything? I have started the 12 point program, and despite my concerns I have made a doctor's appointment. I am also wondering, even though I spend the majority of my days involved in positive events, making good things happen (whether they want to or not), why are my nights so frequently shredded by negativity? Why can't I just stop it?
