NO OFFENSE NOTHING PERSONAL

Ex-Idiot, This is a hard one to answer. There are waves of relapses that come to the boards, and then there are times that no one posts about them. I will admit, those posts scared me. But only from those with quite a long quit going. I always wondered why they turned back????...... But it also is a realization in this quit. Noone is untouchable. Everyone needs to know how powerful nic really is. And some people just need to hear reassurance that they are human. They slipped. It's not the end of the world. They need to know that they don't have to give up on themselves and their quits. We are all here to support one another for the same goal. To break free from this aweful addiction. So, granted, it is stumbling to hear of those who slip, or completely fall, but we need to remember that this is a choice we made ourselves. And right now, I choose not to fall.......... 4my2girls My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 367 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,010 Amount Saved: $1200.09 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 12 Mins: 44 Seconds: 59

Our quits are as different as we are, and each of us is exactly where we are in each moment... What effects one may not another. I was not effected by the slip posts...they did not make me feel sad, or afraid. I just did what I could to lend support when I had it to give. My experience is that we may be very fragile during our quits, especially in the beginning. I know I was very fragile... That said - we are all responsible and accountable for our own quits, and if someone's post triggers fear in us regarding our own quit - what a blessing of an opportunity to look at where that fear is coming from. My spirit is strong and has healed (and is healing) from this amazing process of taking my life back. So it does not break out spirits, it challenges us at our core, my friend... We are invited to go deeper than we have ever been, and to see and discover who we really are... without the addiction that has stolen our precious time and energy. Ex-Idiot! I know exactly what you mean. As a matter of fact, I posted about this long, long ago and there were tons of awesome responses. It is actually one of my favorite posts around here called "the slipping game". I will bump it for you. You are definately not alone in how you feel. It will be in the general forum. From Canada, I'm blowing some cool air to cool down this thread. I know I probably wouldn't be here right now, with 56 days under my belt, if it weren't for people allowing me to embarass myself by coming clean and telling the truth - that I slipped, quit, slipped again, quit, relapsed, want to quit, slipped, slipped, quit....What it really amounts to is that I hadn't yet found the key to open the door to freedom. There was people on this site that knew I had the strength and courage to do this. Yes I wanted it, just didn't seem to know how. Thank goodness I've been allowed to practice, and now I've got it right. There is a site where you are permanently kicked off if you slip. Well, so much for encouraging people to get back on the wagon! I much prefer a place where, if I fall, there will be folks to help me up. Slipping is not a moral failure. This was EXACTLY why they started the separate forum for slip/relapse posts. If these posts have this effect on you, don't read them....period When I quit, I was really determined....and people who stumbled actually made me MORE determined that it wasn't going to happen to me. The old timers, at that time, also didn't take it so easy on the slipper as the forums seem to now.....and I don't mean that you were chastised or made to feel like a failure, but your didn't get so much "oh it's ok, don't worry, it happens to everyone" type answers. You were advised to pick yourself up and get back at it..pronto. Lots of praise was passed out for success, but not so much sympathy for slipping up. I feel that works best actually....you can't be lax and make it....yes, quitters slip....some of them lots....and that doesn't make them a failure. but I think we should always turn it back to being about NOT smoking and THAT being the thing to dwell on....not so much dwelling on the slips or relapses? Instead of the pats for the fallen, we should dwell on the cheers when they get up? Just my opinion and we all know what those are like.....LOL Hang tough and don't read those posts if they bother you Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1888 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 75,552 Amount Saved: $10761.6 Life Gained: Days: 249 Hrs: 2 Mins: 17 Seconds: 34

Members, Our quits, lifestyles, body and mind are all very different. It is the overall experience we are looking for. We post support, advice and sometimes tough love. Members are free to come and go and some choose never to post. The overall experience is one of honesty and we are not here to judge. The quit remains within you, positive, negative, laughter, and sorrow are all part of the quit. Knowledge is key and it is what you do with it that counts. The journey is not a simple one and all our opinions and thoughts are welcomed. We can all learn from one another, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team
