That's wonderful news Shannon! Everyone says this stuff takes time but its hard for us to believe when we are in a state of panic. Thanks for letting us know that the "time" thing is on our side! I feel pretty great myself.

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to say the Lexapro is working!!! It was tough at first, but now I feel great. I would encourage anyone trying meds to stick it out. The first time I tried an SSRI I freaked out. This time I convinced myself I would stick it out and I'm so glad I did. Thanks for the support!! Shannon :)

shannon I'm so happy to hear that you're getting better. Everyday you will see improvement because the medication takes up to 8 weeks before you receive the full benefits of it. Keep on hanging in there and remember we are all here for you!

Mom2Jasper,I am glad you understand what i am going through.....and it is so frustrating to be so afraid to take anything.I am not on any medication at all,the lexapro was my 1st experience taking anything like that.I just wish i hadn't had such bad side effects with it(I won't go into details...don't wanna scare anyone)but i DO think 2.5mg. may help me and i'd be able to tolerate it,but the fear of side effects is stronger than my fear of the panic attacks.(At least i know what to expect when i panic) If you do start lexapro,i suggest starting at a low dose and then work your way up,try it on a day you have nothing else to do and someone to help you with your kid in case it does affect you.

hi jaide, I can totally relate to what you are going through. I am very sensitive to medicine and have had several allergic reactions so I am apprehensive about starting new medicine. I still have not started the Lexapro. :( I am worried that it will make me sleepy and I will not be able to get my daughter off to school and pick her up from the bus stop. I am also taking a class 4 hours on fridays and 5 1/2 hours on saturdays and I cannot be dizzy or spaced out from medicine while I am in class! So, I have to cope with terrible panic attacks and depression so bad I can't think straight. :( It's extremely hard getting through a day at home let alone sitting in a classroom for hours on end!! :8o: That's why I want to start meds but I am scared. Kind of a catch 22. I was also going to try effexor at 75 mg a while ago but stared at the bottle questioning whether I should take it or not for about a month before asking for something with less side effects and something to help me cope with the side effects. (Xanax, ativan or soemthing) My psychiatrist gave me the lexapro but said he didn't like to prescribe benzo's. Ugh! I go to see my doctor tomorrow so I think I am going to ask her if there is something I can start at a low dose and something short term to help me handle the side effects. And start them while my daughter (and I) are on spring break. You are certainly not alone, a lot of anxious people get anxious about starting new medicine that is supposed to help them feel better! I mostly worry about the side effects, but if I read of a rare case of death or some other terrible mishap I am certain that I will be one of the people in the "rare" category and something terrible will happen if I start the medicine! Ugh, this is frustrating.

My doctor started me on lexapro 3 weeks ago...i took one 10mg.tablet and had a very, very horrible experience with it.I haven't taken it since.I realize the dose was probably too high and that i should start out at 2.5mg.,then work up to 5,then 10,but now i am too scared to take it at all.The doctor prescribed effexor and i haven't taken it yet either.I told the dr. i wanted to start something at a VERY low dose(meds affect me easily),and the effexor is 75 mg.what should i do?I'm too afraid to tell my dr. i haven't been taking either one.I would really like to try the lexapro again, but already have it in my mind i'll panic.......any suggestions?

shannon, it does get easier, if you beat it once you can do it again. I have found it helpful to read as much information as I can on panic and anxiety, because the more knowledge you have the better your chances of getting well quickly. Just remember you can't get well on your own, you have to read, follow the panic program, take medication, receive therapy and pray, pray , pray. We're all here for you, keep us posted on your recovery.

I have been taking it for 6 days now, I also take .5mg of Ataivan. I had a horrible experiance with Zoloft and I guess I am afaraid this will turn out the same way. I have a lot going on in my life now and I think it has all compounded. I haven't felt this overcome sine I was my first attact almost 2 years ago. This sucks but I did it once, this time should be eaiser, right? Any advice is greatfully accepted!! It's nice to know I m in good company. ;)
